Deanna Hanson of Weatherford and her husband, Jim, are regular tipsters to Readlarrypowell.com and they have such soft hearts, especially for animals who might have "special needs." When you read this tribute to their girl Shelby, you’ll see.
As Deanna explained when this arrived earlier this week, “It took me a while to get to where I could write her story.” That is a tribute in itself.
Here is that story:
“A few months ago Shelby started having swelling .Her vet said she had a tumor on her spleen. Because Shel was about 16 and had epilepsy her vet did not think she could survive surgery. So we brought Shelby home and tried our best to give her anything she wanted.
Shelby went to Heaven April 13, 2011. Here are our memories of her life with us.
“We adopted Shelby Lynn from Pet Rescue Society in the Ridgmar PetsMart when she was a young dog. She and her siblings had been rescued from under an abandoned trailer. We nicknamed her Barbie because she was beautiful. She loved kids and they loved her. She was the second dog we adopted and her best friend was our cocker spaniel Valentine.
“When Shelby turned 5 she began to have epileptic seizures and severe allergy problems. The vet got the seizures under control with pheno and she lived a long and happy life. The vet also finally suggested we move to the country and sure enough Shel's allergy problems went away. She is the reason we adopted so many other special needs dogs. She taught us they can do fine if given a chance.
“We cannot even find words to express how much we miss her. She watched over us and
kept us safe.”
This loving tribute to an inspirational dog is signed “The Hanson Family.”
