Holy smoke. Holy smoke. Holy smoke.
Eric Nadel, the radio voice of the Texas Rangers pegged it on the air: ‘What an absolutely astonishing turn of events.”
By now you know the score. If you don’t, look it up on your own. I can’t talk about it.
Look, I’m going to try to keep all these items to “brief” status today. It’s the end of the week and, well, you know, my fingers are nubs – I twisted them off during last night’s World Series game. And my vision is blurry and, of course, I’ve still got to get my Halloween costume "let out" again. Don’t know how many more years I can wear this bumblebee suit.
Holy smoke. I still can’t believe Texas lost that game. OK, gut it up for tonight. Now, we return to our regularly scheduled programming.IS THERE ANY DOUBT THAT THIS IS AN EARHOUND? Danielle and Matt Morgan were enjoying life as usual in the Lakewood area of Dallas when, aaround midnight Monday morning there suddenly appeared this vision on their front porch.
Daniel wrote to Readlarrypowell.com that the dog “appears to be a Pharaoh Hound-Pit Bull mix... I've taken him to the vet, and he's at least a year old. He needs all of his shots and to be neutered. A woman told me that you have something called an ‘Earhound’ nomination? If you could give me any advice about finding this boy a home it would be much appreciated. We already have a 3 year old border collier mix, and aren't certain that we're ready to take on another dog. This guy plays well with the other dog [a 3-year-old Border Collie], loves people, and is very sweet.”
Well, of course, unlike the American Kennel Club we do recognize the Earhound as a distinct breed of critter – not just a dog, but we’ve also spotted feline and rabbit Earhounds, maybe a goat and mule, too, I can’t remember.
But, this dog’s photo is just so darned enchanting that I had to declare him an official Roaming Earhound – except he’s no longer roaming.
Late in the afternoon Thursday, Danielle sent me a note that read, “We are going to foster the dog. We've found someone who is paying to have him neutered and vaccinated, and will donate a crate. We have named him ‘Monche’.”
The rest of the story is that he’s about 30 pounds has “long legs, a big nose, big ears and big webbed feet.”
Monche may be the very first Readlarrypowell.com Web-footed Earhound.
There’s more. Danielle says, “He's extremely playful and loving. He loves to curl up next to us on the couch and sleep.”

Titan ran under a fence and vanished into the neighborhood in Midwest City, Okla., just west of Choctaw, east of Oklahoma City. The dog was spotted off and on in the neighborhood. On Oct. 15, a young woman spotted Titan and he got in the car with her and she took him to her home in Choctaw. Because Choctaw doesn’t have a shelter, the next day she took Titan to the Midwest City shelter. She told Megan she gave the dog to an animal control officer, but the Choctaw ACO says he’s never seen the dog. Since then there hasn’t been a trace of Titan. Megan says the woman says she handed the dog over to a man who was “tall, skinny, with dark hair about 40-50 years old and wearing khaki pants.
So, it is a mystery where this big-eared little dog has gone -- maybe even to Texas. But someone may know something. And Megan is reaching out in all sorts of ways to try to find the little dog.
If you know his whereabouts or something about his disappearance, e-mail meganmagnant@yahoo.com or call 904-614-7862.

CEMETERY ISSUE: You may have seen a TV story or heard about the crisis surrounding the fate of the pet cemetery on U.S. 67 in Cedar Hill – it may become victim of financial circumstances.
According to Theresa Brandon, who has a dog in the cemetery, a meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov., 10, at Cedar Hill’s Zula Wylie Library will “look for volunteers in general” and “complete the board of directors” for a non-profit trust established to protect the cemetery and allow the animals to rest in peace. To ask about helping, e-mail bjbmemfundtrust@aol.com. That reaches Theresa at the Bennie Jett Brandon Memorial Fund Trust, established in honor of her dog who is buried in the Pet Memorial Cemetery. She’ll be happy to send you a copy of the “booklet” about the non-profit.

YOGA FOR CRITTERS: Well, that may be stretching it – so to speak. It’s actually Yoga for humans who want to help critters. Yassi Maige of Bikram Yoga Richardson will host a fund-raising class at 10 a.m. Saturday on behalf of Hillcrest Animal Rescue, according to Karan Graham of Hillcrest. The class is at 10 a.m. (In January a class raised $4,000 and “every cent” went to help the animals, says Karen.) This Bikram Yoga (that’s the hot kind) Karma Class cost $8. The studio is at 1330 W. Campbell. Check it out HERE.
THE DUNCANVILLE SEIZURE AND THE SPCA:We checked with Maura Davies, the SPCA spokeswoman, who said a system has been set up to help get the more than 100 animals seized in Duncanville into homes and rescue groups. It is all outlined on the SPCA’s sit HERE.
The paperwork is necessary – AKC papers, microchip registration, etc. – because, Maura explained, “The judge stipulated that these proofs of ownership need to be presented for us to release animals to owners.”
Verifying the claims and matching people with animals, spaying and neutering, etc., will take a little more time. “We’re doing it this way because we want to make sure people who have a genuine claim of ownership on any of these dogs and cats are able to retrieve their animals as quickly as possible, as required by the judge,” she says.
Any group that wants to become a “placement partner” should contact the SPCA.
“I’ve heard of rumors that there are people out there who are trying to get these animals back to this lady under the cloak of being a rescue group. Again, we must make sure that these animals do not go back into the situation we seized them from,” says Maura.
When things finally shake out and the “claimed” animals have been placed, the adoptables will be posted on the SPCA’s Findapet site HERE.
CONTEMPLATIONS: Seriously, all I can think about right now is the roller coaster last night. Like many Texas Rangers fans I’ve seen some lousy baseball in 4 decades – but never have I seen a game with so many good, bad and undeniably ugly facets. This Game Six was one for the books – and I’m not sure what kind of books but I’ll bet they have to be stored at a radioactive waste facility. Oh, man. Oh, my. Oh, for crying out loud. It’s heartbreaking. But there’s one more game tonight. This is the game, We're pretty surre we'll hear a strong echo of the late Rangers broadcaster Mark Holtz saying, “Hello win column."
