Happy new year! Yawn all you want...

Though we have yet to win the big Lotto Texas, we will still celebrate the New Year at Readlarrypowell.com.
I suspect this cat is not going to be the only mammal giving off a big yawn this weekend. And I’m not talking about the people who watch the Dallas Cowboys game and lose hope early.
We wish all of you who click on our site the best of things for the upcoming year. If you don’t have a dog or cat around the house, get one. It’ll help you have a happy 2012.
We’re focusing on the homefront for this holiday weekend’s edition of Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap.
As you can see, I have photographed our big orange and white cat in full yawn. That is Griffin and I've been trying for years to catch him in an "action shot." Finally got one. He's generally inert. And not that he’s real big, but Southwest Airlines always insists that he purchases two seats when he flies. OK with him, he’ll take up both of them.
As you can tell, he lounges on the back of a chair in our living room – in fact, when he walks into the room, the dog who is sleeping on the back of the chair will wake and move so Griffin can get the spot.
He also will sleep on a blanket on a box on an end table that is in its special Christmas spot while its usual spot is taken up by a festively decorated tree. Yes, we may leave it up until spring or summer. Depends on the household mood.
And, in what can only be regarded as a museum-quality art shot, that is pure black Annabelle Bob slipping along the sill and disturbing the vertical blinds en route to try to nuzzle Griffin off the blanket. Didn’t work.
These animals will probably maintain their usual schedule through the holidays proving, once again, that dogs and cats have more sense than humans.
Enjoy your yawns and have an incredibly happy 2012, even if it is an election year.
