This may be a first. For our weekend presentation of Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap, we spotlight one of the most common, free-roaming critters in America.
There, atop a leafless old tree in the backyard of the Readlarrypowell.com fully-taxed headquarters in Oak Cliff, Texas, you can see a squirrel in a full-on nap. Nobody bothering him up there. We watched him for about 10 minutes. He didn't move.
Usually, his roos would be the center of attention of three or four dogs who have shown no gift for shinnying up a tree. Kind of envious of that squirrel. Just relaxing on a crisp sunny day. Lord knows what was on his schedule. Tease dogs. Forage for nuts. Make calls on behalf of political action committees. Call people about their time-share. Phone up people who are NOT having problems with their credit cards? Dial up people whose car warranties haven't yet expired but may. The employment opportunities for squirrels are many.
In reality, the property is his home, too. Family inheritance. Be nice if he’d pay a little rent, but I’m sure he’s spending his money on wild times and lotto tickets. They’re so human.
[Send photos of your snoozing critters to email@example.com and we'll post the photos and the bios of the beloved critters in our long-running weekend series, Let Sleepng Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap. READLARRYPOWELL.COM posts these slumbering critter photos to give inspiration to insomniacs, the poor people who can’t find a place on earth to sleep. So, if you see a neighbor crawling up to the top of an old cedar tree or trying to get comfy in a holly bush next to the house, maybe spreading a comforter on a be of prickly pear, well, salute the desperation and cheer on that sleepless individual.]
