EDITION OF THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2017 (PetPowellPress) We live in an odd era, don’t we? In the meantime check out these challenges in the animal kingdom.
THE ZIG, I.E. ZIGGY,
A DOG WHO CAPTURES HEARTS
Our longtime pal and tipster Natalie Blankenship, a volunteer for Angie’s Friends, sent the mugshot of Ziggy, described as a “lovable Staffordshire/Basset House dog looking for a foster home or forever home.”
As you can see from the other photo, Ziggy isn’t a tall dog. His bio reads -- [LARRY ASIDE: Wait a second. I know that the second paragraph is going to tick some of you off. I just wanted to give you fair warning. Together we can all hope that the daughter has dumped the boyfriend and he landed in therapy.]
The bio reads, “The Zig is an amazing, sweet lunk of a guy — all big head and low-to-the ground cuteness — with gorgeous green eyes and a fantastic disposition (unless you're a cat, in which case, Ziggy has no use for you - sorry). Zig has graduated from the audacious training program and is ready for his foster or forever home. Great with kids. Super sweet and loves people. DOB: 2015. Does best as only male dog!
“Ziggy was surrendered to Angie’s Friends by a wise, loving concerned parent who believed her daughter's boyfriend had been hitting him. He's a lover, not a fighter, though, so he kept his sweet spirit when he moved on from that bad situation. He's been in rescue for a year. He needs a foster or forever home where he can continue to work on his company manners and his leash skills and where he can flourish and grow in to the groovy forever pet he has always dreamed of being.
To foster (or adopt) Ziggy, please email email@example.com. See more adoptables at the Angie’s Friends LINK.
Natalie wrote that Ziggy “deserves a great home, but we just can’t seem to find it for him. All of us are trying to think of new avenues to tell about Zig – he currently is in a boarding situation and I am sure he thinks he is out of the loop.”
TWO TO GO
We learned about these dogs from our traditional Lancaster watcher, Tomi Ortiz, whose heart was moved by these dogs. Both Oliver and Maya have been abused by humans. You can, you know, adopt both of them if you want -- save two lives. Would that be so bad? Look good on your permanent record! The info comes from the Facebook site of Furbabies of Lancaster.
THE OLIVER STORY from the Furbabies: “When Oliver came into the shelter a while ago, he was very sad, scared and injured. His left ear had basically been cut off! It hurt him so bad! (We cannot even begin to imagine HOW this happens!). However, since he's been at the shelter, the staff and volunteers have taken such GOOD CARE of this little guy, that he is now a VERY HAPPY little boy! No longer scared or hurting!
“Sometimes ending up at the shelter can be the BEST thing to happen to an animal! That's definitely the case for Oliver! He is doing so much better. He has been NEUTERED and Rabies vaccinated. He is READY for his new FAMILY to come ADOPT him from the Lancaster Texas Animal Shelter!”
THE MAYA STORY, ACCORDING TO THE FURBABIES: “Maya says she has been at the shelter too long and it's time to be serious about finding her a home! Maya is a very very sweet and playful girl. She is around 2-3 years old. She does have some sores on her back that are healing very well. The sores were caused by people but Maya seems to know that not all people are bad. She is looking for someone to love and show her love in return. And maybe even share a couch with!”

CONTEMPLATIONS: As we consider assorted angles in our lives, check out the attitude on this fellow -- that is Lollipop, a cat born in May. He’s got great paws, knows how to express with them and he’s available to dress up a house. That’s why readlarry- powell.com has had cats for years -- great way to dress up a living room. Buy “throw pillows” for the sofa? Heck no, the cat becomes a happy accessory. You can get Lollipop to help warm your home for the holidays at East Lake Pet Orphanage in Dallas -- www.elpo.org. ... Holiday Insights, the website that keeps up with “days,” notes that November 16 is FIVE days: Button Day, Great American Smokeout; International Tolerance Day, National Fast Food Day and Have a Party With Your Bear Day -- we don’t know if that is celebrated in Yellowstone Park. Here’s a LINK to Old Faithful’s live geyser cam. Probably won’t see any partying bears doing the geyser dance. Getting ready for hibernation, you know. ... In 1961, FCC Chairman Newton Minow called TV a “vast wasteland” (look it up) and that was BEFORE reality television took us into worlds most of us didn't want to go. And some of us didn’t know we wanted to go until that first episode caught our attention. Got a favorite reality show? How about that new one? Survivor Yellowstone: Waking the Grizzly.
