EDITION OF THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2017 (PetPowellPress) Let’s just dive right into this edition’s agenda without even bringing up the fate of mankind or the likelihood that those six numbers in the Texas Lottery drawing were mine.
HERE’S OUR REPORT:
YOUR DOG IN SHOWBIZ? The Hallmark Channel has announced a “doggie casting call nationwide” for the channel’s national rescue dog show. HERE’S THE LINK.
There's a multitude of categories include Best Talker, Best Wiggle butt, Best Slobber, Best Head Tilt -- you get the drift. Application deadline is the 15th. Prize is $25,000.
That’s my dog Porche Noel -- rescued herself by invading our space. Also, she’s chosen to focus on her Golden Globe Nomination for “Best Boated Tuna Impression by a Landlocked Street Dog.” This could be the year.
TWO DOGS NEED A BREAK: This is a heartbreaking story for Mimi and Suki. Their human died in September. They need to go to a new home together. The note from rescuer Tana Pattist says Mimi is a 9-year-old, 27-pound Beagle Mix (micro-chipped and house-trained). Her companion is Suki, a 9-year-old Mini-Dachshund who weighs 22 pounds and is also micro-chipped and house-trained. Here are the contact points: tanja.pattist@tx.rr.com or (972) 644-8204.
THE PALM VALLEY ANIMAL CENTER’s dogs are lined up and all ready to go, just need some human help, we’re told in an email from rescuer Laura Macia’s. This is 2-year-old, 26-pound Terrier mix Jerry (A37341120) He’s one of many on the clock -- they’re either going to be euthanized or they’re going to get transported from Edinburg to Dallas so they can get airlifted to safe homes in other parts of the country. Here are the contacts:
tawanacouch@me.com and cat_girl_71@yahoo.com or call or text 214-336-9729 (Tawana) and/or 214-949-2726 (Laura).;;;
HERE ARE TWO OF MANY DENTON DOGS IN A FIX. They’re waiting in the city’s shelter for either rescue or a needle. You see their faces --- precious. Franklin, a year-old, 71.5-pound Akita mix who is heartworm positive, we’ve highlighted before and Grady is a 91-pound, young Rottie owner
surrender (72816) in good health.
Amy Poskey, volunteer tipster for the Denton McNatt Animal Shelter, reports, “We have a wonderful rescue offer from Missy Redding with Bull-luv-able Paws Rescue for any and all these pooches, but we need foster homes to make that happen! So, if anyone can help, please contact Missy ASAP! However, if anybody else can save them, please let me and/or the shelter know.” Email Amy at dale.amy@verizon.net. Check out the rescue at www.bullluvablepaws.org and call Missy at 817-793-2885.
ALL DRESSED UP AND NO PLACE TO GO -- YET That’s Hercules, a 5-year-old congenial and well-socialized cat currently in a foster home through the Humane Society of Dallas County’s Dog & Kitty City. It’s at 2719 Manor Way in Dallas. To ask about Hercules, email adoptions@dognkittycity.org or call 214-350-7387. Get more details at dognkittycity.org.
CONTEMPLATIONS
You might wonder how a dog named Joy could inspire contemplations. The reason is writer Mary Dunklin.
She posted this photo of Joy on her Facebook page, and wrote this thoughtful expression of understanding that will touch people who have dogs and people who are tenderly human.
Mary wrote:
“Three months ago this pup and her littermates were found abandoned in a creek by a park. Now she's on the couch.
Under a blanket.
In front of the Christmas tree.
After taking a half-hour walk.
Whatever bad situation you're in, things can get better, friends.”
You may ask, “So what does a writer know about anything?” You’ll see when you click on Mary's personal STORY.
Sometimes people have a mission of helping other souls -- human and critter.
