For this edition of Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap, we’re featuring a finely fostered cat, this feline Freya who apparently has a thing for The Man in Black.
We get her story from Linda Ashton, our longtime pal with “Your Friendly Neighbor- hood Cat Ladies,” the veteran rescue group. She’s fostering Freya and, as you can see, Freya knows how to nap. “She really digs my Bose Soundtouch radio and seems to particularly enjoy Johnny Cash,” Linda says. “Freya has some emotional issues as she was rescued after someone threw her out of a car last year. She's got occasional attitude, doesn't show well at our PetSmart adoptions, and if she's busy, she'll go into Tail Flip Mode if disturbed. But she also enjoys cuddling up to you if you're wearing an elderly t-shirt.”
(You can see how to audition to adopt Freya by going to the Friendly Neighborhood Cat Ladies adoption site.) Freya obviously knows how to put the back of a chair to good use, too. The bio on Frey reads, “She has pretty much recovered from this (car-tossing incident), although she likes to pretend to nurse on your shoulder -- especially if you're wearing an old t-shirt. She can be a bit of a diva at times, so she'd be equally happy as the only kitty.”
So, in honor of the opportunity to adopt a bona fide Napping Cat into your home, we’re offering three selections from the career of her apparent favorite singer, Johnny Cash. To adopt a cat like this, you’d need a Heart of Gold and that’s what The Man in Black sings HERE. And I found a Johnny Cash/Bob Dylan song, two big-time musical cats mentioning dogs HERE.
If you want to go way back -- I mean way, way back to 1958 --- your historic side might enjoy the cultural snapshot of Ballad of a Teenage Cat. Oops, sorry. That’s Ballad of a Teenage Queen. Freya knew I was kidding!
You can follow the Neighborhood Cat Ladies on Facebook HERE. And they can always use some foster help -- not every cat will want to drape its body on your expensive electronic equipment. But so what if the household cat does? As Tiny Tim said to Johnny Cash in the old film Scrooge at the Rockabilly Hoedown, “God bless us every cat.”
[SEND SLUMBER PHOTOS of your personal or foster dogs, cats, newts, fowl and other beasts to email@example.com and we’ll post them in our long-running weekly feature, Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap. We do this to encourage people to think of animals as companions who know just who they can trust and adore. The world needs more love. And we publish these photos to encourage the CIA (Cursed Insomniacs of America) to realize that they, too, can grab some shuteye if they can just figure out how to drape their bodies across household items. The world needs more sleep, too.]
