Our dog Inky, in that portrait next to our 2017 Christmas tree, was a big fan of the season, the day and, we think, the reason for the holiday. He was also a fan of the Christmas dinner. And he was a presence at 15 Christmases. He saw a lot of snacks and a lot of ripped up wrapping paper.
He only ever chewed open one gift -- it was for me. It was a Cocker Spaniel keychain.

Martha put that loud tape on the remote so we wouldn’t lose it -- so far, so good. And that paper wadded up behind The Senator is a losing Lotto Texas ticket. Not even The Senator wants it.
That last photo of our late darling Inky is from his memorial files: He’s giving us his impression of an Elf who has just rushed into the North Pole Ready Room after an evening of wassailing and spotted a big steaming platter of Mother Claus'
