“Faith” and “grace” are two important words in the world of animal rescue.
But, say the words “Dowdy Ferry Road” in a conversation with animal advocates and you may just get a grimace. A wince. Even a curse.
For a change, here’s an opportunity to associate “Dowdy Ferry Road” with a smile in this edition of Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap.
We’re bringing you to the intersection of faith and grace with Dowdy Ferry Road.
This opportunity is thanks to veteran animal rescuer, fosterer, advocate and former Dallas Animal Shelter Commission member Andy Allen and her hubby John. When this photo of the sleeping dog was taken, she was the household foster dog. Andy posted the picture on Facebook and that got our attention.
“This is Faith, my Dowdy Ferry rescue,” she explains. “When I found her, she’d recently been dumped at the side of the road. Obviously she’d just weaned a litter of puppies, so I guess she was no longer needed. The puppies were nowhere to be found -- just the usual assortment of dead animals.
“We fostered Faith almost four months through League of Animal Protectors (LAP); she finally found the perfect home just a few weeks ago.
“She took her new bed with her, but the last picture I saw she was in her humans’ bed. She deserves every luxury in the world! After all she went through, she is still the sweetest dog ever.”
The other photos came from the adoptors who are happy to let their dog get the spotlight while they stand proudly, anonymously in the shadow on the porch! [LARRY ASIDE: We think the cat wants to remain anonymous, too.]
And, FYI, Andy says, “Faith has been rechristened Grace and here (the other photos) she is in her new home. I’m told she also sleeps on the bed AND the couch!”
Yes, Andy and John taught her well that she could actually trust people and enjoy some restful sleep while living with them! No more dumping for Grace. Just sleep where you feel like it, sweet girl.
There you have it, Dear Readers, a happy ending for the story of a Dowdy Ferry Dog. May we find many, many more.
Borrowing from this dog’s life, we’ll just declare that we need to have Faith that things will change on the Dowdy Ferry scene and we need to have the Grace that gives us the peace and energy needed to rescue and love animals -- and some people, too -- in every Zip Code in North Texas.
[Readlarrypowell.com proudly posts photos of your animals (and some of your humans, too!) in our weekend editions of Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap. Send photos and info to email@example.com. Remember, your slumbering animals may inspire people to adopt animals that need a home where they can sleep peacefully, safely. Also, you inspire the world’s insomniacs to have faith that they, too, can have the grace to get upside-down and fall asleep -- they’ve probably tried every other position! Thank you all for reading our stories and admiring the people who save animals.]
