"In our weekend edition of Let Sleeping Dogs Sleep & Napping Cats Nap, I’ve frequently kidded my fellow insomniacs about being able to sleep if we can just find the right bed and right position.
That brings the weekend spotlight to Izzy, not a canine insomniac but one of the dogs in the household of David and Della Wallace. As you can see in the first photo, Izzy has found the right bed and clearly achieved the proper slumber position for her declaration as a “Sleeping Dog.”
And, in the second photo, Izzy has found another “right bed” and, once again, achieved her happy slumber position.
Consistency is the mother of slumber!
Oh, how envious insomniacs surely must be!
Where do you get a comfort sleeper like Izzy?
Della says, “We found Izzy in a lakefront neighborhood wandering and obviously lost about 2 years ago. Poor little girl had been out there for some time and was desperate to find a home. We took her in and our other dogs took to her immediately. They play together beautifully and are fun to watch.
"She is so sweet and loving and loves to cuddle and give kisses. Her new best friend is Nipper, formally Bubbles, the little dog we rescued from the Mesquite shelter. We are so happy she is a member of our family.” You see, also, Nipper in a bed -- alert and ready to be adored. That is Izzy sitting up and “asking for a biscuit,” says our pal Della. [LARRY ASIDE: Della
English, so, you could translate “biscuit” to “cookie” if you wanted. Or just decide Izzy is asking for a "dog biscuit!]
And sometimes Izzy likes to enjoy a lie-down on the carpet under her favorite drawer handle. Whatever it takes to maintain some relaxation, you know? Is that a cute face or what -- bet it's hard to walk by her without reaching down to pet that baby!
[LARRY ASIDE: There is a great joy in multiple-dog households. You not only see how a dog interacts with you, but how dogs interact with each other and you can also tell when they both wish you’d change the TV channel and “find something good to watch until we nod off.”]
[PLEASE SEND US PHOTOS OF YOUR SLUMBERING CRITTERS! The address is firstname.lastname@example.org. Readlarrypowell.com’s weekend feature Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap is in its 14th year (first edition published on May 14, 2005). Some day I’ll add up all the dogs, cats and other sleeping creatures we’ve featured (even been a few people whose slumbering was entertaining!). We’ll be happy to spotlight your dog or cat or “other” comfy dozers on the Roll of Slumbering Critters -- send photos and bios to email@example.com. The rescued animals in this absolutely unposed (I swear!) photo -- (top to bottom) The Senator, Porche Noel and Texas Earl the Cheeseman -- are demonstrating that a recliner encourages companionship and peaceful understanding -- that’s why they have endowed the Peace Chair at the United Nations. I’m kidding.
Remember, by showing off your sleeping friends, you’ll be serving as a role model for humans who need an animal and don’t know it yet. And your sleepers and nappers will be encouraging insomniacs to have faith that they, too, can get some sleep if they can just twist the right way in bed that is round, square, flat, lumpy, on the floor or in a chair or on a couch. Insomnia -- a pet peeve.]
