OK, the docs and nurses are taking care of Angie Manriquez, so it's up to other people to take care of the animals Angie has rescued from ugly conditions in West Dallas.
Annette Lambert of Animal Guardians of America explains it pretty succinctly: They need people who'll take in dogs and they need money. There are more than 50 dogs involved. They need foster or permanent homes. And, on an emergency basis, cash is needed to help board the animals that aren't finding foster homes right away.
So often in such cases of a "mass recovery," the animals wind up being "put to sleep" because, for some groups, it's a matter of practicality. Not an option for this bunch of rescuers. They want these dogs to find homes.
And, seriously, why should the dogs die because of human problem? Makes no sense.
Besides, Angie has devoted her heart and soul to saving these animals, getting them healthy and socializing them so they can be adopted -- her work matters and it shouldn't be lost.
Some of the dogs are already in boarding facilities -- and those bills are mounting. To volunteer to help, e-mail Annette at [email protected] or call 972-527-3726.
Loyal friends of Angie's are helping out -- Beverly Fyfe, Alice Stognar, Bob Walton and others -- but the load is overwhelming. More people are needed. "We are desperate," Annette says.
The dogs, she says, are "mixed-breed dogs but they're wonderful, fabulous, sweet dogs."
