You know that elusive red, ruffled prom dress we've always dreamed of...well, wait a second. Let's get the details first:
As you know from reading the magazine Urban Animal and from the tidbits dropped at this web site, the Metroplex Animal Coalition is currently involved in a fund-raising campaign of key importance. It's the "Have-a-Heart" campaign to fund the Metroplex Animal Coalition's Patt Davis Memorial Spay/Neuter Program.
Who is giving to this campaign? Lots of folks. First, Cheryl and Sam Wyly pledged a $15,000 matching grant to MAC.
Now, comes Pepper Mintz, described by MAC's Elaine Munch as an "independent rescuer and MAC supporter." Pepper is hosting a garage sale and will donate 25 percent of the sales to the MAC Have-a-Heart Campaign.
The fund to match the Wyly grant is currently at $5,000 -- the campaign ends March 31, though, of course, the spay/neuter program will continue year-round.
Before we get to the garage sale details, remember that every little bit helps and you can donate by going to www.metroplexanimalcoalition.com or sending a check to Metroplex Animal Coalition, 8333 Douglas Ave, Suite 1350, Dallas, TX 75225.
In a note, Elaine writes, "If you have not donated yet, attend the sale and buy some great stuff. She's even offering a vintage 1950s red, ruffled prom dress! That's worth the trip to the sale."
Oh, goodness, what an opportunity! I let my ruffled prom dress get away from me years ago...but that's a different story for another time. And, of course, I'm just joking. Honest. I wore my Sunday suit to the prom -- it was the era when every crowd of young men in suits looked as if they were either at a wedding, a funeral or a church service. Black suits, black sox, white shirts, black ties. In those days, we left the flair up to the ladies.
Now, here are the Pepper Mintz Garage Sale details:
It's March 18, 19 and 20 (that's Friday, Saturday and Sunday) at 1237 S. Westmoreland Road in Dallas. It starts at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday and at noon on Sunday. On Saturday, a 25 percent discount kicks in at noon and on Sunday it's 50 percent off all day. (The site is on Mapsco 53K. And you can't park on Westmoreland, but you can park around the corner and walk -- and there'll be a driveway reserved for folks who can't walk.)
The sale organizer says there will be vintage pottery and glassware, Bakelite, craft and holiday items, pet toys, vintage Christmas ornnaments, etc. There are some books ("including a very interesting original drawing by a WWII soldier depicting the Battle of the Bulge/Bastogne from the 101st Airborne") and paintings ("signed and framed 'bathroom art' prints in the Dirty Dogs of Paris series by artist Boris O'Klein").
The list goes on: large dried seahorses, cast metal crosses, Gold's Gym workout mats, massage table ... and it all leads back to that red, ruffled gown. Get it now, wear it to the Oscars in 2006.
Well, at any rate, interesting items that will be sold for a good cause. Bless MAC's heart and keep the cash flowing in.
