Ah, it's the first weekend of April and time for our weekly feature, "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap." After a lengthy run of canine snoozers, we get into some serious cat naps with today's presentation.
We have Thada King to thank for this amusing photo of her girl Nora, a brown tabby, adopted from Feral Friends in January, 2005.
Thada writes, "I call this picture 'Frankenstein Kitty' because of the way her front legs look. This photo was taken a month after she was adopted."
The other photo is of Tawny, adopted from Operation Kindness in August 2003. "I call Tawny a 'torbie' (tortie tabby) since she has a striped pattern in her color patches, a tabby-striped face with the 'M' on her forehead and tabby-striped legs. I think the lady at Operation Kindness called her that when I adopted her and it's easier than saying 'tortoiseshell tabby.'"
Tawny, the comfortably curled cat, "has become queen of the castle," says Thada.
"She sometimes sleeps in her bed, but her favorite napping spot is where ever I am."
In Thada's spare time, she is a "kitty cage cleaner" for the Frisco Humane Society.
Of course, any insomniac worth a snore has to be envious of these two cats. Look at how wonderfully asleep they are! One curled up in sweetness, the other posing as if she knew someone with a camera might walk past.
Maybe if insomniacs could purr they could get more sleep.
A SPECIAL HOLIDAY NOTE: Because this edition of Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap will be posted on April 1, I am tempted to ask you all to dig deep into your pockets and give as much as you can to a worthy cause, Chupacabra Rescue, a small group desperate for funding to support the Chupacabra Spay/Neuter Program. Too many Chupacabras are winding up in city shelters or are taking over neighborhoods as feral Chupacabra colonies. Click HERE for information about coping with this particular situation.
Remember that you, too, can nominate any dozing animal on the planet -- even a snoozing Chupacabra -- for spotlighting in our weekly Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap feature. Just send a photo of any slumbering critter (or relative), info about the sleeper and a way to reach you to [email protected] .
For April Fools Day, I tried like the dickens to find a photo of sleeping Bigfoot or a slumbering Chupacabra, a.k.a., the "Goat Sucker," but the best I could do was the link to my cryptozoological pal Craig Woolheater's blog with the Texas Bigfoot Research Center. Heck, even Bigfoot has to nap.
