BE ON THE LOOKOUT IN DALLAS: An upset family and some volunteers are anxious to recover a lost big dog -- about 70 pounds -- last seen in the area north of the Wal-Mart at I-30 and Cockrell Hill Road during the weekend. The dog (black and "tannish" with some white hair) is a Rottie mix and is shy.
The dog was in the West Dallas area because it was being handed over to a free spay/neuter program for transit to a clinic Friday morning, reports our tipster Beverly Fyfe. As dogs will do, this one became skittish, slipped its collar and ran. Volunteers tried to catch the dog, but it ran north on Cockrell Hill and vanished into a field where Cockrell Hill ends at La Reunion.
If you've seen this dog, call 972-690-9260 and report its whereabouts. A phone call is preferred to e-mail, but if you only have e-mail, send the info to [email protected].
The Metroplex Animal Coalition and the Kaufman County Animal Awareness Project team on a project that allows owners in certain zip codes to get free spaying and neutering for their pets. The pick-up point was at I-30 and Cockrell Hill. The animals were being picked up by the KCAAP "Critter Cruiser" to be taken to a clinic in Crandall for surgery.
Beverly reports, "The dog's family is heartsick. They had rescued this dog last year when they saw a neighbor beating it in front of his house. The dog is skittish, had never been out of the area, never been in a car, and was understandably very upset and ran as fast as he could."
