The look on this cat’s face is like, “What? It’s May? Already? And here I am caught with the dog. Dang. Well, maybe nobody'll notice the snoring mutt.”
But, in reality, that's not ol' mutt and this photo was sent to Readlarrypowell as a nomination for our weekend feature, Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap.
As you can tell, there is a sleeping dog in the picture, a young Golden Retriever.
Marlo Schrader provided the photo and the info and says the picture is “not just one of a slumbering pup and a cat.” Nope, she says, it’s “not so much napping as conquering....a picture of a Happy Ending.”
She says that the dog is Haley, a former ward of Golden Retriever Rescue of North Texas. Marlo was Haley’s foster. And the unnamed cat is one of a couple that Haley now lives with are getting a really good break from a breed rescue group.
Haley “was picked up by animal control as a stray at the tender age of 8 weeks old,” Marlo says. “Barely 7 pounds and scampering around the streets for who knows how long, but she was very skinny and dehydrated when picked up and no one came looking for her.
“She was my foster girl and was adopted after 8 weeks in my care into her current forever home where she happily resides with another Golden and two cats, including the one depicted here who is obviously laying down the ground rules of who’s in charge very clearly.
“So although the world of rescue is not a Fairy Tale there are happy endings to be found.”
Ah, yes, the great face of a Golden accented by the no-nonsense face of a new pal who just happens to purr while the puppy snores.
(To nominate a slumbering dog, cat, in-law or chupacabra for spotlighting in our regular weekend feature, "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap," send the photo or photos and info to [email protected]. We’re proud to publish photos of all ages of critters than can sleep, nap, doze, catch Zzzzzs or just plain ol’ nod off. When we do this, an angel may not get his wings, but an insomniac will find new hope. After all, if a super alert dog or cat can sleep, maybe there’s hope for humans.)
