Just before 5 p.m. Judy Griggs of RPAL (Rescued Pet Adoption League) of Alba, Texas, called with an update about the two Farmersville dogs who are under a death sentence because of an attack on livestock that may not have involved them.
She's leading the team of hopeful rescuers who have aligned to try to save the dogs. (Judy says the team, which she calls the "Team of Farmersville Puppy Rescue People," includes DeDe Whitcomb, Jennifer Seymour and Chuck and Rosemary Cloud of St. Cloud Rescue. And, she says, "a very special thank you to Collin County Animal Services and "everyone there for all that they do to help the little ones in need every day...")
Judy reports that Dallas attorney Byron Woolley, a veteran of animal cases, is working with the rescue team to try to bring the dogs to a safe haven.
There is a place for them to go if the court rescinds the death sentence.
The folks with Rockwall Animal Rescue have agreed to take the dogs should a judge allow them to be released to a bonafide, non-profit rescue group.
What remains to be done, Judy says, is the usual patient, respectful working out of an agreeable solution. She says the attorney has been working with the Farmersville city attorney and city manager and may, at some point, be in discussions with the municipal judge handling the case.
What can people do to help? Right now, Judy says, they can go to the WFAA-TV website where Steve Stoler’s story is posted and kindly, informatively respond to negative comments from the general public about these two dogs. According to Judy, some of the people who have left comments demonstrating that they are woefully without knowledge of animals and animal behavior. Click HERE,
Judy also says that Channel 33 in Dallas is preparing a story for its evening news at 9 p.m.
Later, Judy says, the rescue group may also need donations to pay for vet care, should the dogs be released.
More to come , no doubt.
