First, let’s just stipulate this: Nobody sleeps like a puppy. Well, maybe a kitten. But if you’ve been around puppies you know that, well, nobody sleeps like a puppy. They don't really have to pursue it.
They’ll be romping across a floor and decide, “Hey, I’m sleepy,” and in mid-romp they’ll just flop down asleep. Some will seek shelter before falling over, but, mostly, puppies are practically narcoleptic.
Take this guy, Dax. He’s a puppy. He’s a sleeper. Thus he's in the spotlight of Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap.He was nominated by Erin Dickson, a volunteer who serves as Puppy Coordinator for the noted rescue group Paws In The City. (You may want to ask Erin about acquiring a puppy – e-mail puppies@pawsinthecity.org.)
Dax was fostered by Erin and was adopted in September. His litter came from Fort Worth Animal Care and Control, Erin says. He had 5 siblings – the snoozing rascal was the last of the available pups.
And Dax, who enjoyed a solid sleep next to a pair of sneakers and in a “den,” is now living in a home where, Erin says, “His ‘parents’ tell me he still likes to get under the furniture and sleep!”
[To nominate your sleeping dog, napping cat, slumbering mongoose or dozing dromedary for spotlighting in Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap, send photos and info to dallrp@aol.com. FYI: For the Thanksgiving weekend, we’d love to get some photos of people in recliners with their snoozing beasties -- turkey and football will do that to you.. Kind of a seasonal photo, you know. Also, for my fellow insomniacs, if anyone else attempts the “crawl under the furniture and try to doze off” method, let us know if it works. I can’t get under the furniture but I’m not above balancing the sofa legs on 4 sets of encyclopedias and sliding under to seek my snoozymuse.]
