Well, let’s be honest. I know that there are insomniacs who will try just about any trick to get some rest, but I’m not sure pet stores need to put in extra supplies in the litter rack and open a “Humans Only Sleep Aisle.”
You never know, however. If you could sleep like that kitten, wouldn’t it be worth a shot to fill up a waterbed with cat litter and hit the rack? The joy of sleeping is why these kitties are the featured critters in this weekend’s spotlight of Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap.
So, what’s the story on these cats? For the explanation we turn to Linda Ashton, our reliable tipster from Texas Pawprints, more familiarly known as “Your Friendly Neighborhood Cat Ladies.” Check out the Texas Pawprints inventory at texaspawprints.org and on PetFinder and on Facebook.
Linda tells Readlarrypowell.com, “I received these sleepers from one of our foster volunteers. Usually, a cat's reaction to a clean litter box is to promptly turn it into a dirty litter box, but this kitten found it quite soporific. These three were nicknamed the Pasta Litter as their mom had them behind an Italian restaurant. From box to right, these are Lasagna, Ravioli and Spaghetti.”
[LARRY ASIDE: That photo of the big cat came off the Texas Pawprints page where I learned that the cat’s name is Itty Bitty and that reminded me of the great line from one of the Greater Tuna plays about a giant neighborhood cat. “Who in the hell would name a cat that big ‘Itty Bitty?”]
[To nominate your slumbering creatures -- whether they’re in a litterbox, a bed, a sink, a stable, an aquarium, a window at Neiman’s in downtown Dallas, whatever -- for the spotlight of our Readlarrypowell.com internationally-read weekend feature, Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap, send photo and info to [email protected]. And, now, I’ll be out in the garage assembling a bed frame, spreading a pea gravel base and raking litter into a smooth surface.]
