Leo.
Yep. Leo. Great name for a cat.
He has the potential to be a literary cat. Or an office cat. And, especially the potential to be a CCC (Constant Companion Cat).
Leo, our spotlight feline for Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap, is experienced as an office cat. There is photographic evidence that he is both an office cat and an office sleeper -- yes, he is very American.
We get the authoritative description of Leo from his current supervisor, our ol’ pal Mark Cooper, The Colony’s Animal Services Division Manager. Many readers will remember Mark
as a beloved member of Dallas Animal Services staff and, later, at Operation Kindness.
Now, he’s the official representative for his pal Leo.
“He is an amazing cat,” Mark says. “But I cannot keep him here in the office forever.”
Why would such a handsome, relaxable cat wind up in a city animal shelter?
[CAT PEOPLE: Get ready to smile knowingly.]
Why’s he in a shelter? Mark says, “He was surrendered by his owner because he is too needy. He wants your attention if you’re in his sight.
“He would make a great old lady lap cat. He’s so loving and affectionate. He rolls over for constant belly rubs. Don’t you just love his little bow tie? He’s a mess for sure!”

Remember, we post these photos to give hope to the massive number of global insomniacs that they, too, can find a place to sleep. Of course, don’t show up at Mark Cooper’s office and ask for space on the desk -- it’s taken.]
OVER IN EAST TEXAS
We’ve written for years about CLAW, it’s the East Texas rescue organization, Citizens League for Animal Welfare. Stephanie Muzney of CLAW is trying to hustle up some help because, she wrote, “CLAW has taken on a 41-dog rescue case after larger organizations and local law enforcement ‘couldn't’ help because the ‘dogs are all in good condition and being taken care of’. Unfortunately, I guess abuse, neglect or laws have to broken before they can assist.
“So nobody seems to be able to help the older couple being dumped on in rural Van Zandt County near Edgewood who are asking for help. These folks started taking in the dogs being dumped on their dead end road, but the situation quickly got out of hand with all being unaltered. In fact, 21 puppies were born during the time they first contacted the folks they thought would be able to help, and being given our group's contact info.”
She also wrote, “This is obviously a situation that is larger than our group can handle alone, especially
with this weekend being First Monday Trade Days, so we are reaching out to our rescue community, family, friends and individuals we feel we can trust. “CLAW has started the process of getting all the adults separated, spayed/neutered, and their rabies/annual vaccs -- 4 at a time until complete. As of today, we have 16 adults remaining. We have also taken the puppies (20 in all) from the premises
and have started shots & deworming.’
“These Good Samaritans have done an excellent job keeping all these dogs healthy, happy, socialized and have provided pens and shelter for months. But it has just become too much. This has been a very good opportunity to educate them about the importance of spay/neuter, and what they need to do when dogs are dumped there. I can't blame them for not wanting to take them to a shelter, as those around here are always at capacity and considered high-kill. They have hearts of gold and mean well. They are also contributing towards the vetting."
You see here some of the pups in need. See more of this story on CLAW’S Facebook site and here are the contact points to offer to adopt, rescue, foster, etc. Call or text Michelle at 903-880-8648, email mashley1973@yahoo.com or email Stephanie at smosby_claw@yahoo.com.
Forty-one dogs. Only temporary humans in their lives so far. Got to find some permanent humans. The planet will be richer for it.
