EDITION OF FEBRUARY 1, 2017 (PetPowellPress) -- First edition of a short month, let’s get right into the midweek cascade of critters ‘n’ stuff. And, whew, dodged that darned seat on the Supreme Court again. Can’t afford the pay cut.
ANGIE’S DOGS NEED IMMEDIATE HELP!
These are dogs that have been tended to for a long time by the legendary Fairy Dogmother of Dallas, Angie Manriquez.
We got the story from one of Angie’s Friends supporters Amanda Struse.
She wrote, “We’re trying to spread the word about Rudy – one of Angie’s street dogs she’s been feeding for a long time. He was recently captured by DAS and we’re looking for a foster or rescue for him.”
If no one stops up to rescue or adopt Rudy (A0976521) then he’ll get
the same thing that 18 dogs and six cats got over the weekend at DAS according to the shelter report. Rudy was living on the street with an older (maybe 10 years old?!) female shepherd (mix?) that DAS is also trying to catch. Angie has been feeding Mamma Dog for a really long time – maybe 6 or 7 years. Mamma dog is wily and a real survivor. Rudy is maybe 3 years old and very friendly while Mamma Dog is a little more stand off-ish, but she’s desperately in need of a safe place to live out her remaining years. Rudy is the brown one in the attached pics and Mamma Dog is the black/tan.”
The Angie’s Friends Facebook page is HERE. Email Amanda.Struse@CH2M.com to offer to help. Or, stop by the Dallas Animal Services Shelter and adopt or rescue Rudy.
WHO IS THIS DOG?
Doesn’t matter. Whoever had her before apparently doesn’t give a damn about her.
We got the story from Krista McAnally, the development Coordinator for The Love Pit Rescue.
The email reads, “A Good Samaritan found this senior girl roaming a park. It's most likely she was abandoned due to the area. She is a beautiful girl who needs her last chance in life. She is shelter-bound right now and desperately needs a rescue to save her. Please share her for rescue and foster and save this senior the trauma of a shelter where she will likely will not make it out alive.”
The contacts are Laura Jean Jensen on Facebook and The Love Pit Rescue at 903-9078.
And, if you want to know how to help these dogs -- this one isn’t the only Pittie in a fix in Dallas/Fort Worth, get in touch with Krista at kmcanally@thelovepitrescue.org. [LARRY ASIDE: Krista signs off her emails with “Go Rescue Dog Go!” and we, of course, endorse that philosophy of helping dogs go to the right home.]
A SUPER OK CAT CELEBRATION
Is Operation Kindness the only Dallas-area organization that could figure out a way to commemorate a Super Bowl without the Dallas Cowboys? Maybe.
Here’s the deal: OK is joining more than 100 shelters across the nation to celebrate the Hallmark Channels Kitten Bow IV game on what’s being called “SuperPURR Bowl” -- it airs at 11 a.m. Dallas time Sunday.
For those of you who don’t follow professional football, the Super Bowl is Sunday in Houston -- expect non-stop TV reports from now until New England thaws or Atlanta’s peach trees blossom (that’s a dendrology joke).
All cat and kitten adoptions on Saturday and Sunday at the no-kill shelter will include “cat care starter kits”.
At 12:30 pm. on Saturday, there’ll be a “tail-gate” performance by members of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
On Sunday, as we all ignore the pain of no Cowboys in the Super Bowl, cat adoptors will get to consult with Lana Fraley Rich, “The Catsultant,” so they’ll better understand how to read a cat. Read about her amazing career HERE.
We’d be remiss if we didn’t display a photo of a cat from the operationkindness.org website. This tough guy is Mr. Heat.
CONTEMPLATIONS: Think back. How many tree jokes have you heard? Can’t remember one, either. But, just fyi, dendrology is the science and study of wooded plants -- in case you wondered about the peach tree joke in the Operation Kindness item. Atlanta is notoriously bereft of naturally occurring peach trees, even though Georgia is the Peach State and Baseball Hall of Famer Ty Cobb was “The Georgia Peach.” Turns out there was irony in that nickname. You can look him up to see why. ... Two important days this month: Valentine’s Day on the 14th and Texas Rangers Spring Training starts the same day in Surprise. I mention this so that some of you will not be Surprised. ... How about that Supreme Court selection. Yeah, I never heard of him, either. But I can’t remember the last time I heard of a Supreme Court justice before he or she was nominated. Here’s a song about following the law.
