That’s my personal cat, The Senator. A wander-up who joined the front porch feral cat flock just long enough to realized he’d stumbled across the mark who owns the house.
It was like the vampire rule: I invited him in and, suddenly, I belonged to him.
Here he is trying to read the vibes coming from the couch. Or maybe he really is napping. Martha says he’s like me: Has mood swings and is temperamental.
The point is this: When an animal feels safe, that critter can sleep anywhere in the house.
Supporting evidence? Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap, our long-running readlarrypowell.com weekend feature, is proud to present this evidence from the Love On Wheels Facebook page.
As we’ve reported frequently, while the Society for Companion Animals arranges airplane flights to safety for North Texas animals, Love on Wheels lives up to its name and drives unwanted dogs to areas where they are wanted. [LARRY ASIDE: I hesitate to use the term “unwanted” because, frankly, there are a lot of us who have never seen a dog we didn’t want. But we have seen a TON of dogs we don’t have a place for or a way to feed them! If the right numbers ever fall in Lotto Texas, we’ll have what we need to become bona fide animal nuts.]
Here are the photos and the captions.
“JJ is doing great! She’s such a happy girl and loves being outside playing and running. We couldn’t be happier about having her as part of the family.”
“Fran is doing amazing and enjoys spending time with his sister, Adrian. He loves playing fetch. We love him as much as he loves us. He always greets us with a toy and wagging his nub. We can’t imagine life without him.”
And, there you have it. Testimony that dogs that were unwanted in North Texas are absolutely adored and essential in other parts of the country.
It’s canine magic.
[A PHOTOGRAPHIC REMINDER: Please send photos of your sleeping dogs, napping cats or slumbering “other” critters to [email protected] and we’ll proudly post their pictures and their stories in our long-running weekend feature Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap. As you know, we use these photos to demonstrate how an actual 21st century human can rise up to make a dog or cat feel safe enough to curl up and nod off. We also post these photos to encourage the world’s insomniacs to believe that they, too, can enjoy restful slumber if they’ll just avoid politics. Does anyone reading this sleep with a dog or cat or dog and cat? Heck yes. At least one of each. The critters are comfortable, but so are the humans! Unless one of the dogs crowds the bed.]
