EDITION OF THURSDAY, NOV. 2, 2017 (PetPowellPress) -- Yeah, I watched Game 7. New bitterness has arisen over the fact that the first Lone Star State team to win the World Series is not the Texas Rangers. As a Rangers fan, we hew to the motto: "Wait 'til next year. Again."
FOSTERING NEWS
The SPCA of Texas has tweaked its Foster Program with the aim of, according to Wednesday’s news release, making “it even easier for people to help homeless pets by fostering them. The SPCA of Texas is seeking Foster Heroes to open their hearts and homes to animals in need.”
The SPCA has three types of fostering: Adoption Ambassador; Trust Building & Socialization; and Healing & Comfort.
You can see the difference by going to the Foster Program page on the SPCA site.
The SPCA says, “There is no cost to join, and there are options for everyone regardless of housing, work schedules or other pets. Training and all of the supplies needed will be provided, so all people have to do is give the tender loving care the pet needs."
[LARRY ASIDE: There’s no guarantee that any of these three will be in the SPCA foster program, but you can always ask. They are currently listed on the SPCA adoptables page.]
Husky mix Brianne came to the SPCA via the Animal Cruelty Investigations unit. She and several Husky friends had been “chained outside most of [their] lives with little to no socialization.” She’s just 2, but “making great progress.”
The cat we’ve mentioned before because of his name. He’s needing a special home because he’s HIV positive.
And, that pig is named in honor of a singer, Iggy Azalea’s name inspired the name for this young lady, Piggy Azalea.
Interested in fostering, go to that spca.org/foster site and apply.
GETTING THE POOP ON DALLAS?
Readlarrypowell.com got a kick out of the video posted on the Dallas Animal Services’ Facebook page. It demonstrated a sense of humor and a willingness to work.
That photo is from the video.
The caption under the video reads, “At DAS, even the directors scoop poop! Director Ed Jamison and assistant director Ryan Rogers spent the morning making sure our adoptable dogs got some time out to run, play, and yes, poop, in our outdoor play runs.”
[LARRY ASIDE: We’ve not met either of those guys, but this is an admirable exhibition of pitching in. As a journalist who has written about various aspects of the City of Dallas for more than four decades, let me assure you, Dear Readers, that if a person wants a career in dealing with poop, Dallas is the place to apply. It comes in many forms in Big D. And, heck, it’s just one more reason you gotta love this town! Here’s the video LINK.]
CONTEMPLATIONS:
That photo is hardly Ansel Adams quality, but it was shot from the open window of a car moving south on Highway 34 between Greenville and Quinlan near sunset Wednesday. So we’ll call it “Moonrise Over a Texas Pasture At a High Rate of Speed.” Heck, yeah, it’s as artistic as you can get with a cellphone camera at 65 MPH on a two-lane state highway. ... Sears has decided to revive its Wishbook, not published since 2011, but now available both in print and online HERE. I’m no merchandiser -- I worked parttime at Montgomery Ward (rest in peace) in the mid-‘60s. I enjoyed the world of Monkey Wards and Sears & Roebuck. But until I thumb through the Wishbook and spot a time machine for sale, I’m stuck in the Online Century. ... Consider this quote from House Speaker Paul Ryan: “Tax reform will help reignite the American dream. It will help bring us back to a place of confidence, freedom, happiness and a stronger, healthier economy.” That reminds me of the ol’ punchline: “I’m from the government and I’m here to help you.” In Washington, the shovels are a lot bigger than any in Dallas.
