We’ll start with something you probably don’t need to be told: Animals are available for adoption at both the Fort Worth Animal Care & Control and the Dallas Animal Services and Adoption Center. Both are always in need of adoptors and rescuers. You know how to find them -- hello Google.
That kitten with a shoulder to lean on is Marley -- about 5 months old and a girl. That dog is Phoebe -- the DAS page doesn’t provide additional info. But clearly she’s a little dog.
THE SCATTERED LITTER
Oh, this is just a pip of a story. And it involves a real ... well, let’s just let Carol Brewer of Nava Dog in Ennis explain it. This is what she posted on here Facebook page Sunday. [LARRY ASIDE: Some of you will need some help deciphering the abbreviations, Here’s a hint: The President would probably understand POS right away.] Here’s what Carol wrote:
“To the POS that scattered a litter of puppies along the road today.” [LARRY ASIDE: We’ll now translate the next two words in the heartfelt message to the offending person -- wait. No we won't. We'll just tell you that the last word is "you."]
Carol continues: ”First two were found. Then three. Then one. The last one found in the cold rain. Praying that is all of them. A kind neighbor has taken one in, a boy. The rest are safe & warm here at the ranchito. All girls. Feel free to send puppy pads.”
Ship those puppy pads to Carol at PO Box 1275, Ennis, TX 75120.
In a later comment, Carol explained, “Raised six heeler mix puppies until they were six weeks old. They left a few weeks ago and went through 1,200 puppy pads. No joke.”
[LARRY ASIDE: If we were ever to find out who the person is who dumped these latest puppies, maybe we could arrange to deliver the used puppy pads to him -- in a cell. Just a thought.]
Carol lived in Dallas until about three years ago when she moved to Ennis “to grow my dog rescuing capability.” She continued to work with Dallas Animal Services, but, Carol says, she “soon expanded to helping local shelters in Corsicana, Ellis County SPCA, Ferris and Wilmer; but as I learned about dogs being abandoned I wanted to help them, too. Nava Dog has helped about two dozen ‘dumped’ dogs in the last two years. The puppies found this weekend are particularly sad because it appears they were scattered across a few miles on two different rural roads. MEANWHILE ANOTHER DOOZY
This one was posted on February 2 by animal fan Missy Anne Thorp on her Facebook page. She wrote, “Pittie boy in the middle of the road came home with me. BLEEPHOLE in a red truck tried to hit him. That I was able to make it through this day without killing someone astounds me.”
[LARRY ASIDE: Bless her heart for dodging trouble and saving the dog, too. Have a similar thought about the guy in the truck. Humans, we are a conflicting species.]
MIKE THE CAT’S JOURNEY
We first heard of Mike the Cat, about 8, from our Houston tipster Alexandra Kelsey who forwarded the Houston BARC animal sherlter folks’ note that read “Citizen stated that someone kicked the cat, cat is unable to shut mouth - tongue is sticking out and is very thin.”
The report from “TEAM MIKE” is that he’s going to to be spending some time with a vet starting Monday so he can get his eye and his jaw fixed.
The report included this paragraph from his caregiver: “Despite having a broken jaw, bone thin, scabies and looks like ruptured eye, he still managed to purr and run my head against my hand. Amazing.”
His “blood work looks good; FEL/FIV negative, just needs some good groceries and TCLC and surgery and he will be great. He is able to eat and appetite is very good.”
And the note included this appeal: “Please donate to Animal Justice League.” Here’s that LINK.

FOR A COLD TEXAS DAY
Dressing for a frigid Super Bowl hasn’t been a problem in North Texas for a while, but this is a cute dog who makes winter gear look good. This is Nutter Butter, a Chihuahua mix no where near the 2018 Super Bowl. My funspouse Martha likes to hang with the dogs in the back yard now and then -- like when the weather is nicely warmer than it is chilly. So, on Sunday, she snapped this photo of Porche Noel with Texas Earl the Cheeseman. They’d both just called their guys in Vegas to bet on the Super Bowl. That explains the concerned look on their faces. Porche had misplaced her shades. Earl was on the brink of meditating. ... Our longtime small dog tipster Cheri Fults, co-founder of Recycled Pomeranians and Schipperkes Rescue, sent us a fascinating story about a guy who was reunited with his childhood dog after his parents surrendered the little critter.
