EXTRA EDITION WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25, 2018 [PetPowell Press] This unplanned edition is dedicated to shelter animals -- we’re hoping to put the focus on unwanted Chihuahuas and cats without much hope. They’re in all shelters. Here are some examples:
Adolph is the sad-eyed brown Chihuahua and Cowboy is the little colorful fellow with a bit of a haunting, lost look in his eyes -- what do these two dogs have in common?
They were both surrendered to Mesquite Animal Services -- and this is from the bio provided by our tipster Judi Brown, “because the owners had a change in lifestyle.”
Yep, came from the same home with a third dog, a female, who’s already been adopted.
[LARRY ASIDE: It was been my experience with our Chihuahuas, Vera and Rosie, that they are creatures who love routine and stability and laps. These two must be horribly upset with the way things are going.]
Adolph (#38364919) is a 6-year-old 12-pounder. Judi wrote, “When he looks up at you with adoring eyes, he will melt your heart like he did mine.” He’s shy but warms up. Likes treats. “He loves to snuggle. He’s looking for a lap.”
His former housemate Cowboy (#38364996) is a 13-pound, 4-year-old Chihuahua-Jack Russell mix -- hazel eyes, curly tail. “Timid but can be bribed” with treats, Judi says. “His previous owner said he likes to cuddle.
"
These two were inside dogs, of course. Cowboy is leash resistant -- but snuggle-prone.
The term “lifestyle change” is broad -- maybe a couple went into assisted living, maybe jobs changed and someone moved from a house to an apartment, maybe someone decided they’d had it with small dogs and changed to big dogs or cats.
Doesn’t matter -- these two dogs are on the clock.

Oh, and, yes, Mesquite has plenty of available cats. I’ve included the cat’s online bio because of the precision.
Precision? Yep, someone at Mesquite can estimate a cat’s age right down to the day. I don’t know. Maybe this was a surrendered cat and the owner wanted to get the age right. Doesn’t matter. The cat needs a home. Based on our experience, black and white cats are enormously entertaining. We’ve had two of them. Of course, our other cats were entertaining, too. Ours tuxedos, Cyril and Poirot, were born more than a decade apart and never met each other, but both were absolutely, entertainingly zany. This Mesquite cat can probably carry on that legacy.
THE FRENCHIES ARE HOME
The two French Bulldogs who bolted from a North Dallas home on April 20 have been found. And the pretty part of the story is they’re home, according to the story on the Lone Star Dog Ranch Facebook page HERE. You’ll have to scroll down to find the story that includes an accouint of the “negotiations” for the dogs’ return. Not sure if the “negotiations” were legal. But the dogs are home.
