EXTRA EDITION WEDNESDAY, AUG. 21, 2019 [PetPowellPress] Oh, boy, we’ve got an opportunity right now for someone to do the right thing — the best possible thing — for a dog named Coco. She’s 1075678 at Dallas Animal Services and needs a foster now.
We got her story from Patty Sprong who, as you probably know, is one of the nation’s — maybe the galaxy’s — top-notch foster moms. And that is how she met Coco, but it is also how she discovered Coco’s dilemma. These photos are of Coco at “Patty’s Place,” where dogs have a friend.
Here’s the hitch in the story: “I am just sick,” Patty wrote to me last night. “The dog that I fostered for Clear the Shelters was NOT able to participate in the event due to medical issues. She is HW+, has bad knees, and her urine was abnormal.
“They wanted a longer term foster for her while they gave her antibiotics, etc. Unfortunately that can’t be me because she kept going after my cat. My cat is happy now, has come out of hiding, and is eating again. Coco, on the other hand, is at DAS and in desperate need of rescue. …
“She is an amazing dog for a cat-free home. She is social, playful, and gets along with others. She was in the ‘Gentle and Dainty’ play group at DAS. She was a bit much for my 5- and 8-pound dogs, but would be great with playmates her size.” [LARRY ASIDE: That's Coco and the gang at Patty's Place enjoying some relaxation on the household furniture -- exactly where dogs should always feel at home!]
Coco is 5 years old, weighs 47 pounds and she’s a Lab/Pittie mix who, at first glance, looks like a black dog, but in the bright light of day has that wonderful dark brown/ chocolate coat with brindle markings.
Very social, Patty says. “Loves everyone she meets — except cats. She takes food gently. She knows how to use a doggy dog.”
Here’s a reason to remember the joy of Coco the Dog when you consider helping her: Patty says, “She dove right into my neighbor’s pool to say hello!.”
Patty says contact DAS and use Coco’s ID number (the one on the collage, A1075678). Email [email protected]. Stop by the shelter at I-30 and Westmoreland. Call the shelter at 214- 670-6800.
Remember, you don’t need a pool to foster or adopt Coco — just a heart big enough to help a sweet dog.
