[EXTRA EDITION, SUNDAY, JANUARY 3, 2021 [PetPowellPress] We’re posting this to help our friend Tomi Ortiz, longtime rescuer and reader and a devoted animal person, find her late parents' dog -- frightened by fireworks on a night when fireworks weren't expected.
Layla is missing — the event occurred Friday night, when most of us thought the coast was clear on the fireworks. Tomi sent a note saying that on Friday night a routine event became “different.” She says that “my brother let my deceased parent’s dog, Layla, out to do her business. He then went to the store for some groceries and when he got back she was gone!
"He said that when he drove into the driveway he heard fireworks and he thinks that’s what spooked her. She’s lost in Lancaster and is not microchipped. ☹️
“She is the weirdest mix of Pit and Corgi. She was spotted by someone in Lancaster and they posted it on the Nextdoor app.”
Tomi sent us that posting and also the latest photo the family has of Layla.
“God willing she’s returned back safely!” Tomi wrote. If you’ve seen Layla or around Lancaster, call 214-532-4665.
A SECOND SUNDAY NOTE
WHEN A DOG OR CAT goes missing after a fireworks-blasting holiday, it’s not a funny thing. The animal is terrified and human hearts are broken. But every now and then, there’s an odd moment that deserves a look.
IN ANOTHER PART of the Metrosprawl, someone posted an appeal for help looking for a dog that went missing during New Year’s Eve fireworks and the photo that was posted with the appeal was this one of a large black and white cat.
While things were being sorted out, someone, apparently a cat lover, posted this explanation, “He identifies as a Pit bull — never underestimate a cat! :)”
[LARRY NOTE: Bless the people whose animals fled the fireworks. May all the missing dogs and cats be home in time for their Sunday dinner. That’s from the heart.]
