EDITION OF WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 6, 2021 [PetPowellPress] Welcome to an abbreviated version of our report — we're calling it Juggling Wednesday. Lots of things in the way of our usual business. I have called upon this dog Kellen to look hypnotically into your eyes and help all of you with juggling your daily business and
AN UPDATE ON SHANNON
We told the story in Tuesday’s edition of the heart-felt efforts being put forth by 4-Legged Helpers to save a girl named Shannon from losing out to ringworm.
The dog needed a foster or a rescue in order to prolong her treatment. And 4-Legged Helpers’ Laura Macias reported first thing this morning, “We found a foster for Shannon finally. … We try so hard….” [LARRY ASIDE: You veteran rescuers know exactly what that feels like — you keep hustling and you find yourself on the verge of tears until the right things fall together and a miracle appears for an animal nobody wanted.”]
Feels good when you get that break, doesn't’ it. Makes me want to get a skywriter to stream “PRAISE THE RESCUERS!” across the Metrosprawl — except, of course, it was so cloudy when I wrote this that nobody would even look up! But if I win Lotto Texas tonight…look up on the next sunny day!
We’ll keep you posted on the progress of Shannon — she’s the kind of dog somebody wants. Get in touch with 4-Legged Helpers by emailing cat_girl_71@yahoo.com or call or text 214-949-2726. Those are the contact points for these dogs, too.
Here are some coming attractions for our next editions.
You’ve met Kellen The Hypnotic Dog already. There’s Rylie the Leaning Dog, Isabella the Snack-Nibbler and baby Shelby, the affectionate young pupster. More later on these.
IN THE MEANTIME, A COOL CAT
GETS AN ENDORSEMENT
Every now and then I’ll drop in on the Facebook page of David Maldonado, the Lifesaving Initiatives Coordinator for the SPCA of Texas. What caught my eye this time was that cat. Looks famous, doesn’t he? Might be some day, I guess.
David’s message reads, “Do I have any friends in the market for the coolest cat there ever was? Hobbs was a cat that hung around our shelter for close to a year. Recently he decided the streets are no place to live so he just walked right in our front door.
“We think he is about 6 years old, 13lbs, will be neutered [Tuesday], FIV+.
“Hobbs has the coolest temperament. He loves belly rubs, chin/heads scratches, as well just hanging out on your lap.
He will be available soon through the SPCA of Texas. Let me know if you might be interested in him!” David’s Facebook page is HERE.
[LARRY ASIDE: As you know, there are lifestyle restrictions regarding an FIV-positive cat. But that doesn’t mean the cat won’t have a long, affectionate and enjoyable life with the right human being. The SPCA can explain all that to you.]
CONTEMPLATIONS
FACES. DATES AND SOCKS
Sometimes it’s the faces that get to me. Here are 4 from the current inventory at Dallas Animal Services. Personalities come through those eyes and muzzles, don’t they! (See more at dallasanimalservices.org.)
Every time I click onto the DAS online/Facebook pages, I look back to the time when you almost could not find out what dogs and cats were available for adoption in the City of Dallas shelter. It was the political power of the rescuers and the animal advocates that changed the attitudes in Official Dallas. Bless all of you stubborn, hard-working and animal-loving people. You changed things for the better in Big D. It’s a constant mission. …
Ever think about how infrequently these days you have to rewrite the date on a personal check? With a debit card, there is no scratching out 2020 and scrawling a tiny 2021 in the corner. ….
Here’s a Christmas story: I was bragging to a friend of mine that for Christmas Martha gave me what I wanted — a battery-operated, handheld vacuum to tidy up around the door to the office cats’ litter box. And my pal replied, “I got battery-operated heated socks. That’s the last time I tell my husband my feet are cold.” Yep, that story enhanced my happy new year.
