[EXTRA EDITION JANUARY 12, 2021] We’re posting this note from our pal Tomi Ortiz, veteran rescuer and animal advocate, who is as appalled as any good heart will be.
There’s a dog with a pole attached to his neck running free in the area of Grauwyler and Story Road in Irving. Looks like he might be a Rottie mix. He’s being monitored by a fellow on the Nextdoor page in Irving.
This morning’s note reported that the dog “is still out there, very cold and skittish.”
But, at mid-morning, Tomi reported that there are people who are teaming up to help the dog. So, if you’re in the area don’t try to catch the skittish terrified dog. Let the "team" handle this.
The fellow who has been monitoring the dog is allowing Irving Animal Control to set up a trap in his yard — appropriate since the dog “keeps showing up at his house,” Tomi says, adding, “It takes a village!”
[LARRY ASIDE: We’ll continue to monitor this situation. There is another “loose” dog in that area — mangy, starving -- and it may benefit from from getting city attention. Say some prayers for both dogs.]
Hard to look at those photos and not feel some emotion. As Tomi writes, “I am so heartbroken for this poor dog in Irving. …[People] haven’t been able to catch this poor dog. Several people try, but he’s so scared and skittish they can’t catch him and are afraid he’ll run into traffic.”
These are the Nextdoor illustrations we got from Tomi.
The dog has been at Grauwyler and Story and also at John Smith and Bradford, the neighborhood posts say. And there’s this photo of the dog at a shopping center in the area.
There’s more to come on this story, no-doubt. [LARRY ASIDE: Of course, we’d sort of like to hear the explanation for why the dog has a two-foot pole anchored to his neck — whatever the purpose was, it was a poor theory, a lousy decision and an incredibly disrespectful action to such a noble and now-terrified dog.]
To end this on an up-note, Tomi says “Every time I see people with such caring hearts it makes me feel a little better about this world we’re living in!”
