EDITION OF TUESDAY, JAN. 26, 2021 [PetPowellPress] Here we are typing late on a Monday afternoon and wondering how Lotto Texas can, without a smidgen of guilt, sell me a ticket that in 30 numerical selections, can match only one “lucky number.”
Some day my luck will change and that year I’ll be high-kicking with the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes in the “Macy’s Day Parade,” as the NYC folks refer to the Thanksgiving extravaganza. We have Punxsutawney Phil notes in Contemplations. First, we cite Zachary (again) and a diabetic Denton cat named George. Read on and I hope they’ve all been rescued, adopted or sprung by the time you see their stories today. That dog? That’s Porche Noel, my dog. She makes my heart feel good — thought I’d share her.
THE ZACHARY STORY;
HIS PAL ZOEY, TOO
Maybe by the time you read this Zachary will have gotten some help defeating what’s described as “some type of skin infection where they [shelter staffers] see something bubbling.”
You may recall Zachary — the guy who came in last week with Zoey after they were found stray and a Good Samaritan took them to the Lancaster Animal Shelter.
Our tipsters at 4-Legged Helpers have been trying to find a rescuer to take them out of the shelter and get them a home and some help. The shelter staffers also want these two saved, we're told.
While Zoey is healthy, Zachary is bedeviled not only by the bubbling skin infection, but also by missing teeth and missing back fur.
The note sent by 4-Legged Helpers Laura Macias and Leighanne Hayden reads that the shelter does “not know if he is an older boy or was possibly in a situation where he tried to chew his way out.” Both dogs are sweet and happy to be petted and treated with respect.
So, to save their lives, get in touch with 4-Legged helpers by calling or texting 214-949-2726 or by emailing cat_girl_71@yahoo.com.
The Helpers are happy to help a bona fide 501(c)3 by answering questions or arranging a transport “directly to your rescue.” [LARRY ASIDE: And if your too late to help the sweet pair because somebody beat you to ‘em, 4-Legged Helpers has cited plenty more Lancaster animals that need a happy escape route to a good home.]
THIS CAT GEORGE HAS LOOKS,
NEEDS A HUMAN HELPER
Again, hopefully by the time you read this the very handsome George will already have a landing spot.
We learned of him via our Denton tipster Amy Poskey. She wrote, “This handsome boy is George and he needs our help.”
He’s in the care of Denton’s Linda McNatt Animal Shelter. Amy explains that “this handsome boy” George (#91379) “was recently surrendered by his owner due to his [the cat’s] current battle with diabetes. He is currently on special food and medications but he needs additional care, so we’re hoping a rescue can help with his special needs.”
The shelter staff reported that George is an 8- to 10-year-old neutered Siamese with diabetes and maybe pneumonia. The staff also said, “George’s bloodwork revealed a low thyroid level, but vet staff believes that when we get his diabetes under control it will level out. No kidney issues to report.”
He takes medicines and will need someone who understands the necessity of being on-time every time with his meds.
To offer to be Mr. Handsome George’s rescuer, get in touch with the McNatt folks by calling 940-349-7594. Email gayla.nelsen@cityofdenton.com, Randi.Weinberg@cityofdenton.com and/or julien.peralta@cityofdenton.com,
[LARRY ASIDE: That George is quite a handsome fellow with some distinctly amazing eyes! All he really needs is a good human.]
And keep those contact points handy because, as Amy reports, there’s another handsome boy needing help at the McNatt Animal Shelter and Adoption Center.
This guy is Shilo, a 10-year-old Whippet/Italian Greyhound mix who weighs in at 39.8 friendly pounds. Family got another dog and Shilo was surrendered. Ain’t that a swell move by some humans!
As Amy describes him, Shilo is a “handsome boy with the precious frosted face.” He’s fighting dental disease and has “tumors/masses on his sweet little body. On January 15 the shelter vet staff removed one of Shilo’s larger skin tags so he currently has external sutures that will be removed within the next 2-4 days.”
She also wrote, “If a picture is worth a thousand words then these pictures tell me about a sweet, shy, scared boy who has no idea why he’s in a scary, noisy, unfamiliar place. Those sad eyes and folded ears tell a sad story… Shilo was surrendered when his family brought home a new, younger dog and Shilo snapped at the little guy for being so rambunctious. Unbelievably heartless and heartbreaking. Bless his heart, Shilo deserves better. The shelter staff have not seen any negative behavior from Shilo. He’s just a sweet, older gentleman looking for a soft bed and a family who will LOVE HIM FOREVER, NO MATTER WHAT!!!” PLEASE SAVE THIS SWEET ANGEL BOY!!!” (Use those earlier Denton contacts to give Shilo the break he deserves.)
CONTEMPLATIONS
Wasn’t Monday a wonderfully sunny day! Yep, gettin’ close to baseball season. Still, I think I had an enjoyable weekend with my funspouse Martha. Can’t remember a thing we did — except laundry. Oh, yeah, I watched (again!) the William Powell/Myra Loy film I Love You Again — it’s an amnesia comedy. That’s my pin-nosed office cat, William Powell, named in honor of the movie star. ….
I ran across this quote on Facebook and it was attributed to a fellow named Jim Fiebig but I cannot find a reliable reference to him or whether he’s a writer, politician or dog trainer. Enjoy the quote, however: “"If your dog thinks you're the greatest person in the world, don't seek
a second opinion." …
Here we are approaching Groundhog Day and I am already warming up for Thanksgiving. Ah, but Punxsutawney Phil, somewhat like the Macy’s Parade, will be prognosticating virtually this year. No Super Bowl-sized crowd. Here’s the story from Statin island Live. That’s Phil from 2020 when he predicted an early spring and, as it turned out, was correct. He may have been the only predictor who got anything right in 2020. We have no Groundhogs in our home. Matter of time, probably. Cutest woodchucks in North America.
