INTERRUPTIVE NOTE FOR DEC. 15, 2021 -- As readlarry powell.com prepares the next edition of notes about dogs and cats and the people who love them, we take time out to cite an event of 30 years ago today.
Yep, that's (left to right) Larry Powell of readlarry powell.com, then a newspaper columnist, and Martha Muse, then a member of the secretary team in the editors' office, on the day we were wed: 12/15/91. It's been quite a 30-year-adventure. My funspouse is still speaking to me. And that is a major marital triumph.
Earlier in 1991, she'd declared, "We'll get married when pigs fly." There you have it. The day the pigs had wings -- 12/15/91! I made this sign and put it on the groom's table next to the groom's cake which I had decorated with a dozen small pigs wearing paper wings and bouncing on the ends of long wires anchored in the chocolate cake. Heck, yeah, I ignored my wedding diet and ate cake!
And, yes, through our holy matrimony, we've rescued quite a few dogs and cats. Thirty years of "What are we going to name this one?"
I feel compelled to remind people in love that they can find wisdom in their romantic matches. Here's an example.
Wisest advice I've ever gotten from Martha?
"Stop being an idiot." I have to work at it. After all, I am a male.
