Can this really be a $400,000 cat?
Wow. Read on.
Readlarrypowell.com has met a lot of cats through the years. They do not include this full-grown baby Bitsy.
You know why? Because if we met her, we’d have another new cat around the house. She’s beautiful and intriguing — in fact, her face looks as if she might just have been designed by a high-priced 21st century artist.
We monitored her listing on the Dallas Animal Services bedallas90.org site all week. Know what happened? Nothing. No adoption for Bitsy and her very distinct face.
She does, however, fit precisely within the guidelines of our long-running weekend feature, Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap.
The DAS website’s Bitsy bio HERE features photos taken by her foster.
And it has this flattering bio: “This cute little girl is Bitsy. She is a shy cat but once she warms up to you [she] is very affectionate. She will follow you all day long, loves being petted and will curl up to sleep next to her human.
“Bitsy is not an outdoor girl; she would just as soon stay in the house. She does get lonely by herself so she would do well in a home in which her human is around a lot. Bitsy does not get along with other cats.” [LARRY ASIDE: And that last bio note explains why Bitsy’s new address is not in the Readlarrypowell.com Zip Code.]
Bitsy’s DAS ID is A1140589. On her bio page, under “Pet Type,” she is listed as “Cat.” Guess that makes it official, though, readlarrypowell.com, based on years of feline observation, never had a doubt.
Bitsy is an adult — she’s a year old, the shelter says. And, get this, at a year old she weighs only 8 pounds. That explains how she can fit comfortably in your arms while you’re watching TV or sneaking her into a theater to see Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick.….
[LARRY ASIDE: I’m kidding about that. I can’t remember the last movie I saw that a cat might enjoy. Possibly 1958's Bell, Book and Candle, starring Pyewacket the Cat along with Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak.]
Frankly, Bitsy looks a little more enchanting than Pyewacket. Consider that pattern on her face. In the winter you could color it green and decorate it like a Christmas tree. With her permission, of course.
As you can see in the photos, she has the ability to live up to the high standards of “Napping Cat.”
Wait, I almost forgot to list this significant note. Bitsy is available for adoption from Dallas Animal Services at the special rate of $400,000.
Hang on.
I’m just kidding. She’s one of the many, many FREE ADOPTION cats and dogs waiting in the giant Dallas animal shelter. Tell your responsible, loving friends and save some lives. The City of Dallas buys euthanasia juice by the barrels.
[DEAR READERS: Perhaps you live with a dog who knows how to sleep or a cat who has mastered the art of napping or some other animal who is a champion at the sport of slumbering. Please snap photos of them in their full snooze modes and send them to [email protected] so we can celebrate their animal/human/sleep relationship in Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Nappng Cats Nap. My dog Porche studiously supports creation a national movement in support of Napping Cats. And, she notes, you’ll be helping people decide they can indeed have a happy animal in their homes and you may encourage insomniacs to believe they, too, can sleep if they just paint the ancient “Calming Tree of Bitsyland” image on their foreheads.]
