EDITION OF MONDAY/TUESDAY JUNE 6-7, 2022 [PetPowellPress] Some sort of website provider situation has disrupted our ability to place photos that have been acquired since the weekend. So, in lieu of opening this with a photograph of me hitting a golfball 350 yards and rolling it into the cup, we’ll just make do with words and punctuation.
Who knows? By the time we get to the end of the day, some computer genius will toggle the right switch and lift my mood away from endorsing a return of carbon paper. Wait! Just after noon, the system was working again. The vexation was erased! I have no photo of me playing golf. Here’s a picture of my personal companion Porche Noel sleeping — she sleeps better than I hit a golf ball.
BEAUTIFUL CAT AND A
VERY DISTINCT DOG
We got these stories and photos from the good hearts with 4-Legged Helpers.
Assuming the webwizards’ system is still not at peak performance when it comes to photos (TIME OUT: Photos are working just read on about Cocoa.) This guy Cocoa is quite handsome. A neutered fellow, he’s also declawed. He has a robust coat of shiny black hair and he has beautiful eyes that really show up in photos. He’s in Ferris’ small shelter.
The note from the Helpers reads, “This beautiful (and we mean stunningly beautiful) big precious kitty belonged to an 80-year-old senior lady that apparently could no longer take care of him. He is 3-4 years old and is front-declawed. Apparently, he is a very sweet kitty. And a very big boy, like most Maine Coons are. The barking dogs in the shelter are a bit much for this handsome boy. FYI, he came in with the name Cocoa but honestly why he was named Cocoa we are not sure. He has beautiful long fluffy black fur."
That brings us to this very distinct Golden Retriever/Shepherd mix named Selena. She’s in care of someone in Dallas and available right now.
The Helpers report, “This gorgeous little fluffy baby girl is just as sweet and cute as can be! Appear to be around 3 months old Maybe 4. Baby, baby sweet.” She has a great alert look on her face and her coat is a wonderful orangish hue. Be hard for a dog lover to turn her down. Cat lovers might want to give her a home, too.
To help the beloved cat and the just-learning-about-life puppy CALL or TEXT 214-949-2726 or email cat_girl_71@yahoo.com
And you can use those contact points to ask about three dogs that remain on the hearts of the 4-Legged Helpers. We wrote about them a couple of times last week. There’s Chad the young mix, Ranger the German Shepherd mix who had a broken leg and Precious (right) the mix who comes with a $400 donation to the 501c3 that takes her in to give her a shot a finding a really good home.
MEANWHILE, OUT AT THE LAKE,
THE FRIENDS HAVE A BUSY WEEK
As you may recall from previous reports, the Friends of the Animals at Cedar Creek Lake just about always have a big Tuesday. After all, that’s the day the Friends operate the world’s most successful spay/neuter clinic in Gun Barrel City, Texas.
Ah, but on Saturday the 11th, from 10 a.m. to noon, the Friends open the Clinic for other purposes. A note from our longtime Friends tipster Sydney Busch says the Clinic will be offering “affordable vaccinations, microchipping, heartworm testing, other non-surgical services. No appointment necessary.” If you have questions, call 903-451-4701 or 214-808-4701. Email sydney@friendsoftheanimals.org. The Clinic is on the southeast corner of Hwy 198 and 334 (E. Main St.) in GBC.

CONTEMPLATIONS
MONDAY INTO TUESDAY
Wait a second: “Monday Into Tuesday” — doesn’t that sound like a French “New Wave” film? Ok, I must have nodded off and dreamed of seeing a French detective film on the big screen. Anybody else miss seeing the foreign and classic films on the screens at the Granada Theater and the Inwood Theater in Dallas? Anybody got a ticket back to the 20th century? Anybody know what happened to the hologram of Marcello Mastroianni that used to be in the theater bar? …
WHILE ANSWERING EMAIL I ran across a Fort Worth neighborhood note that read “Kittens for sale $20. 2 black kittens (1 male and 1 female)( green eyes). 1 white kitten ( female) (blue eyes).” And a reader replied, “Please say you meant a rehoming fee.” Readlarrypowell.com is hoping the money will go into a “Spay Momma” fund for the family cat. …
TWO VERSIONS OF A SONG? This FIRST CLICK takes you to Edwin Starr’s original and this SECOND CLICK takes you to an advert first and then a duet of the song by Mr. Starr and Bruce Springsteen. Enjoy. Peace unto us all. And that flag photo? That's a 48-star (the number on the flag in 1944) that, as is his tradition, our Eastern Bureau Chief Andy Fisher, an Army veteran of the Cold War, flies on D-Day each year at his Indian Lake estate in Denville, N.J. Flying the U.S. flag is a wonderful salute.
