EDITION OF WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY AUGUST 7-8, 2024 [PetPowellPress] We’ll begin this midweek edition with some stories of animals in need. Kind of the theme of the Summer of 2024, don’t you think?
A ROTTIE GIRL’S IN A FIX
AFTER SPAY SURGERY
We got the tip on this dog’s story from our pal Karen Lee of Barkleyworld.com, the non-profit organization that helps animals and people who help animals. You’ll see why.
That is a photo of Gertie before the surgery.
Karen, in a note to animal friends, wrote, “I’m sharing this post for a rescue near and dear to my heart, A Rottie Rescue, Inc. at www.arottierescue.com and based in Ft. Worth, TX. They do so much to save Rottweilers all over Texas and in several other states as well. Sherri Green and I have worked together on several ‘Rottie’ rescues in the DFW area and she needs some help with precious Gertie. Please read Gertie’s story below and help if you can.” Any donation of any amount is greatly appreciated. Donation links/info below. Sherri updated overnight that she is still $2,000 short on Gertie’s vet bill estimate which is attached. Thank you for your support!”
This is a photo of Gertie as she is being monitored and carefully tended to after an unfortunate difficulty following the surgery. She is “in an Emergency Hospital” after the initial surgery.
The note from the A Rottie Rescue organization reads that Gertie was “bleeding out from the spay surgery and is in Emergency Surgery to save her life. A stitch has come off the artery to either the uterus or ovary. She will definitely need a transfusion.
“An auto transfusion will be tried where the blood from her stomach is used but it probably won’t be enough and we’ll have to go to a Donor dog.
“ER has pushed her surgery ahead of their other critical surgeries tonight….Please we need help to pay this emergency surgery for our precious Gertie. Please we need to save our Gertie’s life.”

RESCUE? NOT A NEW STORY,
BUT A CONTINUING NEED
FOR SHAWN & SUZIE
Our pal Laura Macias has been working on finding homes for these two dogs for several months now. We’ve mentioned them a few times because of our theory that all dogs need a traditional home with dog-loving people and good food and medical care.
They’re a pair of dumped dogs who were rescued out of — yes — a traditional dog dumping area near Ferris.
Right now they are, as Laura’s note reads in caps: “BEING RAISED AT A GUN RANGE! THEY ARE SWEET DOGS AND FULLY VETTED AND READY TO GO!”
In her email to the general readership of her notes, Laura wrote, “Begging for your help in finding rescue and/or adopters for these sweet pups & dogs.
“Note that Ferris/Hutchins will even allow a foster-to-adopt type situation so anyone has time to ensure the dog is a match with their family. No fees to rescue or adopt….IF YOU CAN HELP... call or text: 214-949-2726 (Laura). You can also email [email protected]. Thank you!”
Laura reports that Shawn (left) is neutered and Suzie is spayed. They’re vaccinated, gotten shots and de-worming and flea preventative..
They appear to be sibling Black Mouth Cur mixes. “Such sweeties,” Laura’s note reads, “And so very deserving of a home and to have someone to love. … They were found out and about in a very rural area of the county all by themselves by a Good Samaritan who tells us they are great with other dogs.
"Very well behaved. Even enjoy riding on the golf cart, LOL. Both are young dogs and incredibly sweet. Very loving. Available individually or together.”

TEMPS IN ‘70S? AND OTHER THOUGHTS
On Wednesday morning as Senior Office Cat William Powell (left) and I took turns staring out the office window while waiting for the city trash truck to pick up our donation to the city’s recycling and traditional landfill areas, I thought, “I oughta start this edition with a quote about summer. So, like all dynamic researchers, I googled “summer quotes” and the first one that popped up was so un-Texas that I decided to cite it. “Sun is shining. Weather is sweet. Make you wanna move your dancing feet.” – Bob Marley.
BUT THEN WE GOT A NOTE from our Eastern Seaboard Bureau Chief Andy Fisher who smiled when he typed that the temps at the bureau in Denville, NJ, area were in the 70s this morning. It’s a soggy thermometer —the area is being visited by remnants of Hurricane/Tropical Storm/Soggy Debby.
OK, in the Lone Star State, let’s all move on with our August day like the hope for snow at Christmas in North Texas. Hope melts quickly when the temp is higher than a reindeer’s eye.
LARRY EXPLAINS: We’re opened with a Rottie-in-Distress story for two reasons: (1) Our tipster, the great Karen Lee, of barkleyworld.com knows the organization helping Gertie and (2) I miss my Rottie boy Texas Earl the Cheeseman and I know personally what sweet and wonderful dogs these Rotties are. They deserve loving, efficient, healing care and great homes. Every one of them.]
