EDITION OF TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2024 [PetPowellPress] Some rainstorm Monday morning. Perfect cover for galactic travelers arriving to watch their favorite team play ... wait. I've been reading too many government reports about unsolved UFO reports. Probably none of them are really connected to the Dallas Cowboys, right? Let's move along. More in "Contemplations."
THE DOG IN THE PHOTO
INSPIRES A MESSAGE...
This showed up in one of my several inboxes Monday morning and it turned out to be from someone with a great rescue history and an experienced understand of how people treat animals: The great Roberta Womack, a notable Chihuahua fan.
But this doesn't isn't a Chihuahua. This dog is a "messenger."
The passage with the photocame from Roberta;s note:
"STOP giving free dogs away. This pup didn't deserve the two weeks of torture as a bait dog that he received. Please stop putting your pets on Facebook and Craigslist. These are hot spots for people looking for bait dogs and cats. -------Thank you again for sharing and getting the word out.!!!!🙏 "
[LARRY ASIDE: I was unable to get any more information on this dog other than Roberta told me it was or maybe still is a local dog. Anybody recognize this dog, let us know. Email [email protected]. There's probably not a shelter in the Metrosprawl that doesn't have a dog that "kinda looks like this one.]
MEANWHILE, IN WESTERN OKLAHOMA
A NEED FOR BLANKETS AND STRAW
This note came from the legendary animal advocate Terry Lynn Fisher of Burns Flat far, far western Oklahoma. We've been writing about her and her rescue work and influence on shelters for years.
Her note reads, "Just a reminder: We are still needing several dog houses and if anybody has any straw they could donate for the houses, that would be greatly appreciated.
"I do use blankets for the dogs that are in the barn, but all of the dogs that are outdoors are needing a doghouse. I’ve always been told that straw does better because it doesn’t hold the water or freeze up the way a blanket will."
Terry Lynn also says, "It’s been tough the last couple of weeks with lots more rain moving our way. Not sure if it means anything or not, but as the temperatures continue to drop, it could mean snow and sleet So I’m just trying to get protection for those dogs that do not have houses.
"If anyone has anything to donate, please let me know. We have a truck and trailer that we can come and haul houses on, so if you’re not too far away, and have any to donate, please let me know."

BACK IN TEXAS, THREE DOGS
WAITING IN MESQUITE....
These aren't the only three dogs in Mesquite Animal Shelter, but we did get emails with their biographies Monday. There are many more dogs and many cats and kittens waiting for good souls to help 'em out, i.e., out of the shelter and into good homes.
You can see the entirety of these bios online at the shelter's SITE HERE.
GARRETT (Shelter ID # 57226809): Biographer Judi Brown writes, "If Garrett could talk he would tell you he’s a nice boy and didn’t do anything to deserve being abandoned in his home. And Miss Judi, who took photos of him, would tell you the same thing! Garrett is a one year-old, 42-pound Border Collie mix. My Dog Scanner said that he is also mixed with Fox Terrier and a little bit of Whippet. He was brought in on 11/6 with Marcus, who has similar markings, but is a different breed.
"This is a case where you can’t judge a book by its cover. Garrett was very rambunctious at his window. However, when I went into his kennel he backed up and was very docile and timid. He’s actually very gentle, sweet, loving, friendly, and happy. His tail wags constantly." (See more of Garrett's bio by gong to the shelter website. Same place you can find out more about Marcus, coming up next.
MARCUS (ID #57226839) has a bio written by Judi. It begins, "Marcus does not know why he was abandoned in his home along with Garrett. If he could talk he would say he was a fun-loving, playful companion. He tried to please, but obviously it didn’t work. Miss Judi told him that the next family that comes along will appreciate him. Marcus is a one year old, 35 pound mixed breed that was abandoned in his home on 11/6 along with Garrett. ... He’s very playful, friendly, joyful, attentive, well mannered, and athletic. He even climbed on some of our outdoor equipment. ... He would really enjoy a yard to romp in but would like to spend family time cuddling with his new family in front of the TV."
RAYNA (#357226809) "looks sad because that's what she is," Judi reported. Then she explained, "After devoting two years to her family, they surrendered her saying she was unwanted. She just does not
understand and I don’t either because she’s a total sweetheart! Rayna is a two year-old, 55 pound Rhodesian Ridgeback with beautiful coloring and captivating eyes. Her pupils are hazel, but the irises are light blue. Quite a combination!
"She’s already spayed. She was surrendered on 11/13. Before I got her out, one of the staff told me that she was very sweet. I totally agree! She stayed so close...."

CONTEMPLATIONS
UFOS AND OTHER STUFF
Whenever news stories pop up about flying saucers (or whatever the current term is), I find myself missing the efforts of The Eclectic Viewpoint to enlighten Dallas and surrounding area. Makes me miss the great Cheyanne Turner who put The Eclectic Viewpoint's programs together for years --- programs about time travel, eerie occurrences, odd sightings, Bigfoot and "flying saucers and UFOs" among many other things. Nowadays I'm not sure Dallas and its growing population would even consider buying into the possible reality of flying saucers and ghosts and Bigfoot. And now? Well, just google UFOs and see what pops up. Cue the spooky music. ... Why did Larry The Newspaper Columnist go to Cheyanne's programs? You've got to fill the space with something interesting. Also there was this: I kept hoping that at some point she'd have a program that explained how my family got to this planet. Some of you know what I mean. I've seen you out shopping for what is called "food" on this strange third planet. ... Ever watch the old Twilight Zone? Based on truth or imagination? Hmmm.
