Merry Christmas, Dear Readers:
I am the movie star-handsome William Powell, the Senior Office Cat at readlarrypowell.com.
It is my annual privilege to wish all of you dear readers and supporters of animals of all sorts a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
This is a wish of joy from both the Texas base and the fantastic Eastern Seaboard Bureau in New Jersey.
It's helmed by veteran print and broadcast journalist the Editor-in-Chief Andy Fisher who is inspired and advised by Bureau CEO Annie Fisher. It also is guided and counseled by Eastern Seaboard Bureau Office Cat & Morale Officer Chloe.
[We thought Santa was going to bring us some photo-clarity computerware for Christmas, but he's still working on it with Blurry The Elf.]
That is Chloe in a photograph Andy titled "Nativity Cat."
Chloe is a darling cat who, even a we publish this, is helping the humans happily monitor the loving care of a guest dog named Pablo. Like most Office Cats, Chloe earns her salary and, also, her favorite meals. And she enjoys life in Denville with a view of the beautiful Indian Lake.
MEANWHILE BACK IN TEXAS: On Christmas morning in the Texas headquarters, our tender human Martha opened her gifts while sitting in her favorite reclining chair.
One of the household dogstaffers, 50- or 60-pound Wendy Louise Wagstaff Arden, who Martha both rescued and named, volunteered for lap duty with her favorite human.
How big is Wendy? That is her a couple of nights ago when she decided she wanted a bite of whatever kind of sandwich Martha was having for dinner. Patient dog, you know. Yep, that was Wendy patiently waiting on the living-room "hassock" and for a treat -- as you might see, Wendy's a big dog when inserting herself into photographs snapped
in the parade of life.
Back to Christmas Morning:
As Martha prepared to open her gifts, Wendy jumped into Martha's lap, smiled and stretched into her usual "prone with Momma Martha" position and went almost immediately to sleep. Happily. Very happy dog. Almost catlike with her Christmas naps.)
With the adorable dog in the role of "Dependably Snoozing Living Lap Desk," slumbering Wendy in her stillness helped Martha open the gifts. I'm not kidding. Wendy was out like light...with a bit of a smile on her face whenever she sensed Martha approved of a gift. The big lout who wrapped all her gifts was nervous as a cat in a rocking chair factory, as the old saying went when old sayings were in vogue.
At Christmas at our office, everybody works together to enhance the merriness of the situation. We're trying to make that a year-round global habit! "Merry" is a good mission and goal in the household and in print.
Thus, with a sincere 'Merry!' to you all, I remain,
Senior Office Cat William (aka Willie/Wills/Sweet Boy, Mr. Handsome) Powell who wishes you a Happy New Year no matter how many names I answer to as I greet the parade of humanity, dogs and cats in our lives.
