This is the young cat Hastings Streetboy, rescued a 3 or 4 years back from his namesake street in Duncanville. He couldn't see -- two big globules of stuff were dangling from his eyes.
I stepped from my drug store's parking lot into the street to try to get him and he ran from the sound of my shoes on asphalt. I'm not gazelle. This cat, after a few measured steps in his darkness, jumped as if he were going to land on soft earth, but bounced back right off of the too-tall-to-clear curb. He'd hit the curb face-first, but the though little guy kept going. He jump again, landing on the ground and running into a flowerbed. That's where I picked him up. And then I took him to Pet Medical Center of Duncanville and those cat-and-dog-lovin' pros
quickly doctored him back to health. He's now a large cat with a determined attitude.
Back to that October rescue: It was a warm day and he did not seem to mind.
That is not the topic of this edition of Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap.
Nope, the purpose, according to the young Hasty, is this: Use personal strength to convince Texans to "influence" the weather to be warmer in the North Texas Metrochill area.
I napped the first photo of him and his glorious whiskers as he sat on the "peninsula" in the kitchen and glared at the refrigerator. [I've sort of done the same thing through the years -- expains the pounds, eh?]
He later moved from the kitchen to the bedroom and took up that slumberspot on the bed. He has his own controls and can raise and lower the pillow area, but mainly he just likes to crawl up there and sleep through the day. Thus he becomes the famed "Napping Cat Napping."
Those dog photos?
That is one of Hasty's canine pals, Larry's personal dog/companion Porche Noel, found on the porch at Christmas 2009. It was a warm Christmas. Like many dogs dumped in neighborhoods in Dallas, Porche prefers a nice warm day over a backside-frosting day in
Big D. In those early days with us she had her own mask. She also continues to have have her own smile -- awake or asleep.
And that concludes this edition of Let Sleeping Dogs Lie & Napping Cats Nap.
