EDITION OF THURS/FRI/SAT JUNE 12/14 [PetPowellPress] WE INTERRUPT THIS PROGRAM ...If you live with dogs or cats, YOU HAVE A 94.5 percent chance of encountering a resolute dog or impatient cat as you walk toward your bathroom or your kitchen.*
*Not scientifically tested statistics. We've eye-balled these encounters day after day.
The result of our study? Life could be a whole lot worse than having some dogs and cats happy to see you each morning!
That is my Senior Office Cat William Powell -- doesn't he look serene? He just spent about five minutes stretching out so he could rub his chin on the top corner of my computer screen until his itch was satisfied.
You can learn a lot of practical knowledge from a Senior Office Cat. Scratch your chin when needed, for example. And "Never sit on the mouse." And "When you step on the keyboard, do it with a smile, then quickly leave the office." William and I met years ago when painting a house in Dallas. Hard worker. Sticks to the mission. William Powell earned his Senior Office Cat position by (a) diagramming a compound sentence and (b) refusing to endorse the use of the Oxford Comma in writing in America.

AND DISCOVER AN EARHOUND...
So, this morning, as I was going through a collection of emails and assorted U.S. Mail, I ran across the note I'd made to check with DFW's FurGotten Friends and the great rescuer and animal advocate Maeleska Fletes.
I clicked on the website and suddenly my computer screen was filled with adorable adoptables of all sorts and one of them was this fantastic Earhound. Look at that fellow Smucker's (that's how his name is spelled)! Is that a set of ears or what!! Yep, not yet noted at Westminster but surely at some point the breed "AMERICAN EARHOUND" is going to be posing in a trophy after the big show!
[LARRY EXPLANATION: So Smucker's is getting this spotlight because he looks like a guy a good-hearted soul would love to have around the house. He looks as if he's always listening because you're his human and you're about to say something interesting.]
This dog's online bio at DFW's FurGotten Friends -- see it HERE.
The bio opens, "Meet Smucker’s – the peanut-butter pup with a heart of gold and a talent for spreading joy wherever he goes!
"Smucker’s and four of his puppy pals were rescued from a rough RV park situation, but his days of uncertainty are behind him. Now he’s safe, showered with love, and searching for a forever home that’s just as cozy as his cuddle sessions.
"Bonus news? His 'brother from another litter' will be joining us soon—so this dynamic duo reunion is just around the corner! Double the cuteness is coming your way. ...
"Smucker’s is the ultimate combo of sweet snuggles, puppy antics, and silly charm. If you’ve got space on your couch and can keep up with his heart-melting energy, he just might be your perfect match. "
To ask about adopting Smucker's, the fantastic Earhound with the charming personality, go to https://dfwfgf.org/adopt/,
The Friends suggest, "Apply now to schedule a meat-and-treat. Let's see if Smucker's sticks to your heart the way jelly sticks to bread!"
[LARRY ASIDE: I don't know who wrote the bio for Smucker's, but they did a great job adding some joy and animal magnetism to the tale of a genuine Earhound. Give 'em a raise! And you can see more adorable adoptables at THIS FurGotten Friends LINK.
REMEMBER: STAY
FOCUSED ON THE MISSION
As many of you know, our longtime tipster Karen Lee is not just constantly hustling to help people help their animals, but she's also quite a photographer.
The animals she helps through barkleyworld.com -- the non-profit that focuses on getting animals financial help that is sometimes beyond the reach of the family budget. This is absolutely the work of angels: Helping animals out of tough medical spots. As the Barkleyworld website notes, "Barkleyworld was founded in 2013 by Dennis & Karen Lee in honor of our little dog Barkley." Go to barkleyworld.com and you can read the story of how Barkley changed their lives. ...
In the meantime, Karen has developed not only a reputation for having a big heart focused on animals, but for having a magic touch with her camera which she focuses on such things as a moonrise over Las Cruces, N.M.
Here's the latest photo. Click on it or on THIS KAREN LEE LINK to make it as big as your screen and let the beauty of the scene make you think, "I wonder if I could get a job on the household staff out there in Las Cruces."
When you get in touch with Karen, ask about her books of photography. They're beautiful. Follow her on Facebook and be amazed at the beauty of the photos. You really should get in touch so you can see a better copy of that photograph than I can put on this website.... Here is the link to the Facebook posting -- click on it and you'll adore the photographer's view!
[LARRY ASIDE: I love New Mexico. And I daydream about it. And, I have a job application for the Land of Enchantment that notes the following: "I can sweep, mop, make beds, do the dishes and other household chores -- I think what holds me back is my inability to cook anything that won't make a human just a little bit queasy at breakfast, lunch or dinner. I can feed dogs and cats, but the humans are doubtful about my kitchen skills. Honesty in my job application -- never works.]
