EDITION OF TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY JUNE 24-25, 2025. [PetPowellPress] Ah, on a Texas morning, I am enlightened by municipal existence. You know how I knew it was trash day in our neighborhood? I fixed myself three scrambled eggs with seasonings and took a few bites. TrashDay in the neighborhood. The dogs gave me five bucks to not mix my leftover egg dish in with their evening meal. The cats called their lawyer. I'm kidding. They just push a button on their TV remote.
A LITTLE GUY NAMED LOGAN,
WHY HE'S IN A COLLAR.....
This tip about a dog in need came to us from the veteran helper-of-animals, Karen Lee of the pro-animal non-profit barkleyworld.com. She got it from Steffenie Vela, the educator who created Trinity GAP Rescue via the Euless Trinity High School Girls Awareness Program in 2003.
Logan hasn't been around as long as Trinity GAP Rescue, but he does represent the challenges facing animals through decades.
Steffenie's note about Loran reports, "Urgent medical foster needed! Logan was dropped off at the Euless Shelter [earlier in the week.] They called for our help, and we stepped up! He is a 12-week-old, 13-pound puppy who is scared, sick and needs some TLC. We must have a medical foster to save him.
"If you can foster Logan, please email [email protected]. We would also appreciate any donations to help with his medical care. Parvo treatment is very expensive. You can donate on the link below – every dollar is greatly appreciated."
Steffenie included two ways to donate to Logan's care: This link

or on Venmo at Trinity_Gap_Rescue."
REGARDING CATS
OF THE 'WORKING VARIETY'
This was an inadvertent discovery. I was clicking through the SPCA of Texas website at spca.org and ran across the link for "WORKING CATS."
That is a photo taken this morning of my top working cat, my longtime friend and Senior Office Cat William Powell. He is a "working cat" in the definition of his position at readlarrypowell.com. His job: Consult, Comfort, Inspire, Keep the Other Cats In Line." You may recall that William is the cat who sauntered up to help me paint a house and then Martha and I passed his audition. He moved in with us later that morning -- that was in 2018. He's the Cat King of the Casa.
Now, at the SPCA of Texas the "Working Cats" fit into a different responsibility. The SPCA's description reads, "
Some cats are not interested in being pets but make great workers, keeping pests away from your business, barn or residence. Through our Working Cats program, you can provide a home
to a cat who will in turn literally keep the mice away. There’s no adoption fee, and all you have
to do is provide food, water and shelter."
[LARRY ASIDE: There's more -- an understanding and dedicated human heart is necessary, readlarrypowell.com thinks
-- We base that on having lived with cats for decades.]
The SPCA, by the way, works hard to make sure the human and the working cat match up in philosophy and whatever else both need for the relationship to be a success. CONTEMPLATIONS
JUST TRYING TO THINK ...
Ever feel like your brain needs a new set of batteries? I'm not sure what size I'd take when it came to batteries, but I'm betting they look something like the one in my ol' pickup and spend a lot of time like that one does -- waiting for a "jump," as we used to say in the old days. I may have overlooked a personal "recall" notice. ...
OK, for the first time in years I decided to wear my sneakers without socks. My toes are feeling neglected. Pretty sure they're talking to each other about being "without a garment." There's something echoing around my ankles. OK, I made that part up. OK, I've made up this whole contemplation. Did it for free, though, of course, if you think you can make a movie called "Talking Toes," I'll sell you to you on the spot if you'll give me TV rights to the sitcom. First episode: "Toes Lecture a Heel." ...
THE CALENDAR IS MOVING surely, certainly to this important spread of days: September 26-October 19 -- yep that's the run of the 2025 State Fair of Texas. I went to www.bigtex.com and click on Big Tex Merch HERE. I'm not a "natural shopper," as are so many residents of and visitors to the Dallas area and the land of Big Tex. But I did find two things that sort of appeal to me just by the fact that they exist. One is that Big Tex clock and the other is a "Love" necklace. See it at the Merch site. Seriously, is it not cool to live in the area that gives the entire State of Texas a happy beacon of fun, the State Fair of Texas!!!? Heck, I'm almost craving cotton candy -- and, as a dieting human, I haven't had any in DECADES.
